1  On that¹⁹³¹ day³¹¹⁷ did the king⁴⁴²⁸ Ahasuerus³²⁵ give^{5414 853} the house¹⁰⁰⁴ of Haman²⁰⁰¹ the Jews'³⁰⁶⁴ enemy⁶⁸⁸⁷ unto Esther⁶³⁵ the queen.⁴⁴³⁶ And Mordecai⁴⁷⁸² came⁹³⁵ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the king;⁴⁴²⁸ for³⁵⁸⁸ Esther⁶³⁵ had told⁵⁰⁴⁶ what⁴¹⁰⁰ he¹⁹³¹ was unto her.

2  And the king⁴⁴²⁸ took off^{5493 853} his ring,²⁸⁸⁵ which⁸³⁴ he had taken⁵⁶⁷⁴ from Haman,^{4480 2001} and gave⁵⁴¹⁴ it unto Mordecai.⁴⁷⁸² And Esther⁶³⁵ set^{7760 853} Mordecai⁴⁷⁸² over⁵⁹²¹ the house¹⁰⁰⁴ of Haman.²⁰⁰¹

3  And Esther⁶³⁵ spoke¹⁶⁹⁶ yet again³²⁵⁴ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the king,⁴⁴²⁸ and fell down⁵³⁰⁷ at⁶⁴⁴⁰ his feet,⁷²⁷² and besought²⁶⁰³ him with tears¹⁰⁵⁸ to put away^{5674 853} the mischief⁷⁴⁵¹ of Haman²⁰⁰¹ the Agagite,⁹¹ and his device⁴²⁸⁴ that⁸³⁴ he had devised²⁸⁰³ against⁵⁹²¹ the Jews.³⁰⁶⁴

4  Then the king⁴⁴²⁸ held out^{3447 853} the golden²⁰⁹¹ scepter⁸²⁷⁵ toward Esther.⁶³⁵ So Esther⁶³⁵ arose,⁶⁹⁶⁵ and stood⁵⁹⁷⁵ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the king,⁴⁴²⁸

5  And said,⁵⁵⁹ If⁵¹⁸ it please^{2895 5921} the king,⁴⁴²⁸ and if⁵¹⁸ I have found⁴⁶⁷² favor²⁵⁸⁰ in his sight,⁶⁴⁴⁰ and the thing¹⁶⁹⁷ seem right³⁷⁸⁷ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the king,⁴⁴²⁸ and I⁵⁸⁹ be pleasing²⁸⁹⁵ in his eyes,⁵⁸⁶⁹ let it be written³⁷⁸⁹ to reverse^{7725 853} the letters⁵⁶¹² devised⁴²⁸⁴ by Haman²⁰⁰¹ the son¹¹²¹ of Hammedatha⁴⁰⁹⁹ the Agagite,⁹¹ which⁸³⁴ he wrote³⁷⁸⁹ to destroy^{6 853} the Jews³⁰⁶⁴ which⁸³⁴ are in all³⁶⁰⁵ the king's⁴⁴²⁸ provinces:⁴⁰⁸²

6  For³⁵⁸⁸ how³⁴⁹ can I endure³²⁰¹ to see⁷²⁰⁰ the evil⁷⁴⁵¹ that⁸³⁴ shall come unto^{4672 853} my people?⁵⁹⁷¹ or how³⁴⁹ can I endure³²⁰¹ to see⁷²⁰⁰ the destruction¹³ of my kindred?⁴¹³⁸

7  Then the king⁴⁴²⁸ Ahasuerus³²⁵ said⁵⁵⁹ unto Esther⁶³⁵ the queen⁴⁴³⁶ and to Mordecai⁴⁷⁸² the Jew,³⁰⁶⁴ Behold,²⁰⁰⁹ I have given⁵⁴¹⁴ Esther⁶³⁵ the house¹⁰⁰⁴ of Haman,²⁰⁰¹ and him they have hanged⁸⁵¹⁸ upon⁵⁹²¹ the gallows,⁶⁰⁸⁶ because^{5921 834} he laid⁷⁹⁷¹ his hand³⁰²⁷ upon the Jews.³⁰⁶⁴

8  Write³⁷⁸⁹ ye⁸⁵⁹ also for⁵⁹²¹ the Jews,³⁰⁶⁴ as it liketh^{2896 5869} you, in the king's⁴⁴²⁸ name,⁸⁰³⁴ and seal²⁸⁵⁶ it with the king's⁴⁴²⁸ ring:²⁸⁸⁵ for³⁵⁸⁸ the writing³⁷⁹¹ which⁸³⁴ is written³⁷⁸⁹ in the king's⁴⁴²⁸ name,⁸⁰³⁴ and sealed²⁸⁵⁶ with the king's⁴⁴²⁸ ring,²⁸⁸⁵ may no³⁶⁹ man reverse.⁷⁷²⁵

9  Then were the king's⁴⁴²⁸ scribes⁵⁶⁰⁸ called⁷¹²¹ at that¹⁹³¹ time⁶²⁵⁶ in the third⁷⁹⁹² month,²³²⁰ that¹⁹³¹ is, the month²³²⁰ Sivan,⁵⁵¹⁰ on the three⁷⁹⁶⁹ and twentieth⁶²⁴² day thereof; and it was written³⁷⁸⁹ according to all³⁶⁰⁵ that⁸³⁴ Mordecai⁴⁷⁸² commanded⁶⁶⁸⁰ unto⁴¹³ the Jews,³⁰⁶⁴ and to⁴¹³ the lieutenants,³²³ and the deputies⁶³⁴⁶ and rulers⁸²⁶⁹ of the provinces⁴⁰⁸² which⁸³⁴ are from India^{4480 1912} unto⁵⁷⁰⁴ Ethiopia,³⁵⁶⁸ a hundred³⁹⁶⁷ twenty⁶²⁴² and seven⁷⁶⁵¹ provinces,⁴⁰⁸² unto every province^{4082 4082} according to the writing³⁷⁹¹ thereof, and unto every people^{5971 5971} after their language,³⁹⁵⁶ and to⁴¹³ the Jews³⁰⁶⁴ according to their writing,³⁷⁹¹ and according to their language.³⁹⁵⁶

10  And he wrote³⁷⁸⁹ in the king⁴⁴²⁸ Ahasuerus'³²⁵ name,⁸⁰³⁴ and sealed²⁸⁵⁶ it with the king's⁴⁴²⁸ ring,²⁸⁸⁵ and sent⁷⁹⁷¹ letters⁵⁶¹² by³⁰²⁷ posts⁷³²³ on horseback,⁵⁴⁸³ and riders⁷³⁹² on mules,⁷⁴⁰⁹ camels,³²⁷ and young¹¹²¹ dromedaries:⁷⁴²⁴

11  Wherein⁸³⁴ the king⁴⁴²⁸ granted⁵⁴¹⁴ the Jews³⁰⁶⁴ which⁸³⁴ were in every³⁶⁰⁵ city^{5892 5892} to gather themselves together,⁶⁹⁵⁰ and to stand⁵⁹⁷⁵ for⁵⁹²¹ their life,⁵³¹⁵ to destroy,⁸⁰⁴⁵ to slay,²⁰²⁶ and to cause to perish,^{6 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ the power²⁴²⁸ of the people⁵⁹⁷¹ and province⁴⁰⁸² that would assault⁶⁶⁹⁶ them, both little ones²⁹⁴⁵ and women,⁸⁰² and to take the spoil⁷⁹⁹⁸ of them for a prey,⁹⁶²

12  Upon one²⁵⁹ day³¹¹⁷ in all³⁶⁰⁵ the provinces⁴⁰⁸² of king⁴⁴²⁸ Ahasuerus,³²⁵ namely, upon the thirteenth^{7969 6240} day of the twelfth^{8147 6240} month,²³²⁰ which¹⁹³¹ is the month²³²⁰ Adar.¹⁴³

13  The copy⁶⁵⁷² of the writing³⁷⁹¹ for a commandment¹⁸⁸¹ to be given⁵⁴¹⁴ in every³⁶⁰⁵ province^{4082 4082} was published¹⁵⁴⁰ unto all³⁶⁰⁵ people,⁵⁹⁷¹ and that the Jews³⁰⁶⁴ should be¹⁹⁶¹ ready⁶²⁶⁴ against that²⁰⁸⁸ day³¹¹⁷ to avenge themselves⁵³⁵⁸ on their enemies.^{4480 341}

14  So the posts⁷³²³ that rode upon⁷³⁹² mules⁷⁴⁰⁹ and camels³²⁷ went out,³³¹⁸ being hastened⁹²⁶ and pressed on¹⁷⁶⁵ by the king's⁴⁴²⁸ commandment.¹⁶⁹⁷ And the decree¹⁸⁸¹ was given⁵⁴¹⁴ at Shushan⁷⁸⁰⁰ the palace.¹⁰⁰²

15  And Mordecai⁴⁷⁸² went out³³¹⁸ from the presence^{4480 6440} of the king⁴⁴²⁸ in royal⁴⁴³⁸ apparel³⁸³⁰ of blue⁸⁵⁰⁴ and white,²³⁵³ and with a great¹⁴¹⁹ crown⁵⁸⁵⁰ of gold,²⁰⁹¹ and with a garment⁸⁵⁰⁹ of fine linen⁹⁴⁸ and purple:⁷¹³ and the city⁵⁸⁹² of Shushan⁷⁸⁰⁰ rejoiced⁶⁶⁷⁰ and was glad.⁸⁰⁵⁵

16  The Jews³⁰⁶⁴ had¹⁹⁶¹ light,²¹⁹ and gladness,⁸⁰⁵⁷ and joy,⁸³⁴² and honor.³³⁶⁶

17  And in every³⁶⁰⁵ province,^{4082 4082} and in every³⁶⁰⁵ city,^{5892 5892} whithersoever^{4725 834} the king's⁴⁴²⁸ commandment¹⁶⁹⁷ and his decree¹⁸⁸¹ came,⁵⁰⁶⁰ the Jews³⁰⁶⁴ had joy⁸⁰⁵⁷ and gladness,⁸³⁴² a feast⁴⁹⁶⁰ and a good²⁸⁹⁶ day.³¹¹⁷ And many⁷²²⁷ of the people^{4480 5971} of the land⁷⁷⁶ became Jews;³⁰⁵⁴ for³⁵⁸⁸ the fear⁶³⁴³ of the Jews³⁰⁶⁴ fell⁵³⁰⁷ upon⁵⁹²¹ them.

1 καὶ ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἀρταξέρξης ἐδωρήσατο Εσθηρ ὅσα ὑπῆρχεν Αμαν τῷ διαβόλῳ καὶ Μαρδοχαῖος προσεκλήθη ὑπὸ τοῦ βασιλέως ὑπέδειξεν γὰρ Εσθηρ ὅτι ἐνοικείωται αὐτῇ

2 ἔλαβεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸν δακτύλιον ὃν ἀφείλατο Αμαν καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὸν Μαρδοχαίῳ καὶ κατέστησεν Εσθηρ Μαρδοχαῖον ἐπὶ πάντων τῶν Αμαν

3 καὶ προσθεῖσα ἐλάλησεν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα καὶ προσέπεσεν πρὸς τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἠξίου ἀφελεῖν τὴν Αμαν κακίαν καὶ ὅσα ἐποίησεν τοῖς Ιουδαίοις

4 ἐξέτεινεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς Εσθηρ τὴν ῥάβδον τὴν χρυσῆν ἐξηγέρθη δὲ Εσθηρ παρεστηκέναι τῷ βασιλεῖ

5 καὶ εἶπεν Εσθηρ εἰ δοκεῖ σοι καὶ εὗρον χάριν πεμφθήτω ἀποστραφῆναι τὰ γράμματα τὰ ἀπεσταλμένα ὑπὸ Αμαν τὰ γραφέντα ἀπολέσθαι τοὺς Ιουδαίους οἵ εἰσιν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ σου

6 πῶς γὰρ δυνήσομαι ἰδεῖν τὴν κάκωσιν τοῦ λαοῦ μου καὶ πῶς δυνήσομαι σωθῆναι ἐν τῇ ἀπωλείᾳ τῆς πατρίδος μου

7 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς Εσθηρ εἰ πάντα τὰ ὑπάρχοντα Αμαν ἔδωκα καὶ ἐχαρισάμην σοι καὶ αὐτὸν ἐκρέμασα ἐπὶ ξύλου ὅτι τὰς χεῖρας ἐπήνεγκε τοῖς Ιουδαίοις τί ἔτι ἐπιζητεῖς

8 γράψατε καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐκ τοῦ ὀνόματός μου ὡς δοκεῖ ὑμῖν καὶ σφραγίσατε τῷ δακτυλίῳ μου ὅσα γὰρ γράφεται τοῦ βασιλέως ἐπιτάξαντος καὶ σφραγισθῇ τῷ δακτυλίῳ μου οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῖς ἀντειπεῖν

9 ἐκλήθησαν δὲ οἱ γραμματεῖς ἐν τῷ πρώτῳ μηνί ὅς ἐστι Νισα τρίτῃ καὶ εἰκάδι τοῦ αὐτοῦ ἔτους καὶ ἐγράφη τοῖς Ιουδαίοις ὅσα ἐνετείλατο τοῖς οἰκονόμοις καὶ τοῖς ἄρχουσιν τῶν σατραπῶν ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰνδικῆς ἕως τῆς Αἰθιοπίας ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι ἑπτὰ σατραπείαις κατὰ χώραν καὶ χώραν κατὰ τὴν ἑαυτῶν λέξιν

10 ἐγράφη δὲ διὰ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἐσφραγίσθη τῷ δακτυλίῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξαπέστειλαν τὰ γράμματα διὰ βιβλιαφόρων

11 ὡς ἐπέταξεν αὐτοῖς χρῆσθαι τοῖς νόμοις αὐτῶν ἐν πάσῃ πόλει βοηθῆσαί τε αὑτοῖς καὶ χρῆσθαι τοῖς ἀντιδίκοις αὐτῶν καὶ τοῖς ἀντικειμένοις αὐτῶν ὡς βούλονται

12 ἐν ἡμέρᾳ μιᾷ ἐν πάσῃ τῇ βασιλείᾳ Ἀρταξέρξου τῇ τρισκαιδεκάτῃ τοῦ δωδεκάτου μηνός ὅς ἐστιν Αδαρ
ὧν ἐστιν ἀντίγραφον τῆς ἐπιστολῆς τὰ ὑπογεγραμμένα
βασιλεὺς μέγας Ἀρταξέρξης τοῖς ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰνδικῆς ἕως τῆς Αἰθιοπίας ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι ἑπτὰ σατραπείαις χωρῶν ἄρχουσι καὶ τοῖς τὰ ἡμέτερα φρονοῦσι χαίρειν
πολλοὶ τῇ πλείστῃ τῶν εὐεργετούντων χρηστότητι πυκνότερον τιμώμενοι μεῖζον ἐφρόνησαν καὶ οὐ μόνον τοὺς ὑποτεταγμένους ἡμῖν ζητοῦσι κακοποιεῖν τόν τε κόρον οὐ δυνάμενοι φέρειν καὶ τοῖς ἑαυτῶν εὐεργέταις ἐπιχειροῦσι μηχανᾶσθαι
καὶ τὴν εὐχαριστίαν οὐ μόνον ἐκ τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἀνταναιροῦντες ἀλλὰ καὶ τοῖς τῶν ἀπειραγάθων κόμποις ἐπαρθέντες τοῦ τὰ πάντα κατοπτεύοντος ἀεὶ θεοῦ μισοπόνηρον ὑπολαμβάνουσιν ἐκφεύξεσθαι δίκην
πολλάκις δὲ καὶ πολλοὺς τῶν ἐπ᾽ ἐξουσίαις τεταγμένων τῶν πιστευθέντων χειρίζειν φίλων τὰ πράγματα παραμυθία μεταιτίους αἱμάτων ἀθῴων καταστήσασα περιέβαλε συμφοραῖς ἀνηκέστοις
τῷ τῆς κακοηθείας ψευδεῖ παραλογισμῷ παραλογισαμένων τὴν τῶν ἐπικρατούντων ἀκέραιον εὐγνωμοσύνην
σκοπεῖν δὲ ἔξεστιν οὐ τοσοῦτον ἐκ τῶν παλαιοτέρων ὧν παρεδώκαμεν ἱστοριῶν ὅσα ἐστὶν παρὰ πόδας ὑμᾶς ἐκζητοῦντας ἀνοσίως συντετελεσμένα τῇ τῶν ἀνάξια δυναστευόντων λοιμότητι
καὶ προσέχειν εἰς τὰ μετὰ ταῦτα εἰς τὸ τὴν βασιλείαν ἀτάραχον τοῖς πᾶσιν ἀνθρώποις μετ᾽ εἰρήνης παρεξόμεθα
χρώμενοι ταῖς μεταβολαῖς τὰ δὲ ὑπὸ τὴν ὄψιν ἐρχόμενα διακρίνοντες ἀεὶ μετ᾽ ἐπιεικεστέρας ἀπαντήσεως
ὡς γὰρ Αμαν Αμαδαθου Μακεδών ταῖς ἀληθείαις ἀλλότριος τοῦ τῶν Περσῶν αἵματος καὶ πολὺ διεστηκὼς τῆς ἡμετέρας χρηστότητος ἐπιξενωθεὶς ἡμῖν
ἔτυχεν ἧς ἔχομεν πρὸς πᾶν ἔθνος φιλανθρωπίας ἐπὶ τοσοῦτον ὥστε ἀναγορεύεσθαι ἡμῶν πατέρα καὶ προσκυνούμενον ὑπὸ πάντων τὸ δεύτερον τοῦ βασιλικοῦ θρόνου πρόσωπον διατελεῖν
οὐκ ἐνέγκας δὲ τὴν ὑπερηφανίαν ἐπετήδευσεν τῆς ἀρχῆς στερῆσαι ἡμᾶς καὶ τοῦ πνεύματος
τόν τε ἡμέτερον σωτῆρα καὶ διὰ παντὸς εὐεργέτην Μαρδοχαῖον καὶ τὴν ἄμεμπτον τῆς βασιλείας κοινωνὸν Εσθηρ σὺν παντὶ τῷ τούτων ἔθνει πολυπλόκοις μεθόδων παραλογισμοῖς αἰτησάμενος εἰς ἀπώλειαν
διὰ γὰρ τῶν τρόπων τούτων ᾠήθη λαβὼν ἡμᾶς ἐρήμους τὴν τῶν Περσῶν ἐπικράτησιν εἰς τοὺς Μακεδόνας μετάξαι
ἡμεῖς δὲ τοὺς ὑπὸ τοῦ τρισαλιτηρίου παραδεδομένους εἰς ἀφανισμὸν Ιουδαίους εὑρίσκομεν οὐ κακούργους ὄντας δικαιοτάτοις δὲ πολιτευομένους νόμοις
ὄντας δὲ υἱοὺς τοῦ ὑψίστου μεγίστου ζῶντος θεοῦ τοῦ κατευθύνοντος ἡμῖν τε καὶ τοῖς προγόνοις ἡμῶν τὴν βασιλείαν ἐν τῇ καλλίστῃ διαθέσει
καλῶς οὖν ποιήσετε μὴ προσχρησάμενοι τοῖς ὑπὸ Αμαν Αμαδαθου ἀποσταλεῖσι γράμμασιν διὰ τὸ αὐτὸν τὸν ταῦτα ἐξεργασάμενον πρὸς ταῖς Σούσων πύλαις ἐσταυρῶσθαι σὺν τῇ πανοικίᾳ τὴν καταξίαν τοῦ τὰ πάντα ἐπικρατοῦντος θεοῦ διὰ τάχους ἀποδόντος αὐτῷ κρίσιν
τὸ δὲ ἀντίγραφον τῆς ἐπιστολῆς ταύτης ἐκθέντες ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ μετὰ παρρησίας ἐᾶν τοὺς Ιουδαίους χρῆσθαι τοῖς ἑαυτῶν νομίμοις καὶ συνεπισχύειν αὐτοῖς ὅπως τοὺς ἐν καιρῷ θλίψεως ἐπιθεμένους αὐτοῖς ἀμύνωνται τῇ τρισκαιδεκάτῃ τοῦ δωδεκάτου μηνὸς Αδαρ τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ
ταύτην γὰρ ὁ πάντα δυναστεύων θεὸς ἀντ᾽ ὀλεθρίας τοῦ ἐκλεκτοῦ γένους ἐποίησεν αὐτοῖς εὐφροσύνην
καὶ ὑμεῖς οὖν ἐν ταῖς ἐπωνύμοις ὑμῶν ἑορταῖς ἐπίσημον ἡμέραν μετὰ πάσης εὐωχίας ἄγετε ὅπως καὶ νῦν καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα σωτηρία ᾖ ἡμῖν καὶ τοῖς εὐνοοῦσιν Πέρσαις τοῖς δὲ ἡμῖν ἐπιβουλεύουσιν μνημόσυνον τῆς ἀπωλείας
πᾶσα δὲ πόλις ἢ χώρα τὸ σύνολον ἥτις κατὰ ταῦτα μὴ ποιήσῃ δόρατι καὶ πυρὶ καταναλωθήσεται μετ᾽ ὀργῆς οὐ μόνον ἀνθρώποις ἄβατος ἀλλὰ καὶ θηρίοις καὶ πετεινοῖς εἰς τὸν ἅπαντα χρόνον ἔχθιστος κατασταθήσεται

13 τὰ δὲ ἀντίγραφα ἐκτιθέσθωσαν ὀφθαλμοφανῶς ἐν πάσῃ τῇ βασιλείᾳ ἑτοίμους τε εἶναι πάντας τοὺς Ιουδαίους εἰς ταύτην τὴν ἡμέραν πολεμῆσαι αὐτῶν τοὺς ὑπεναντίους

14 οἱ μὲν οὖν ἱππεῖς ἐξῆλθον σπεύδοντες τὰ ὑπὸ τοῦ βασιλέως λεγόμενα ἐπιτελεῖν ἐξετέθη δὲ τὸ πρόσταγμα καὶ ἐν Σούσοις

15 ὁ δὲ Μαρδοχαῖος ἐξῆλθεν ἐστολισμένος τὴν βασιλικὴν στολὴν καὶ στέφανον ἔχων χρυσοῦν καὶ διάδημα βύσσινον πορφυροῦν ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ἐν Σούσοις ἐχάρησαν

16 τοῖς δὲ Ιουδαίοις ἐγένετο φῶς καὶ εὐφροσύνη

17 κατὰ πόλιν καὶ χώραν οὗ ἂν ἐξετέθη τὸ πρόσταγμα οὗ ἂν ἐξετέθη τὸ ἔκθεμα χαρὰ καὶ εὐφροσύνη τοῖς Ιουδαίοις κώθων καὶ εὐφροσύνη καὶ πολλοὶ τῶν ἐθνῶν περιετέμοντο καὶ ιουδάιζον διὰ τὸν φόβον τῶν Ιουδαίων

‎1 ‏בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא נָתַ֞ן הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ אֲחַשְׁוֵרוֹשׁ֙ לְאֶסְתֵּ֣ר הַמַּלְכָּ֔ה אֶת־בֵּ֥ית הָמָ֖ן צֹרֵ֣ר היהודיים הַיְּהוּדִ֑ים וּמָרְדֳּכַ֗י בָּ֚א לִפְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ כִּֽי־הִגִּ֥ידָה אֶסְתֵּ֖ר מַ֥ה הוּא־לָֽהּ׃

‎2 ‏וַיָּ֨סַר הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶת־טַבַּעְתּ֗וֹ אֲשֶׁ֤ר הֶֽעֱבִיר֙ מֵֽהָמָ֔ן וַֽיִּתְּנָ֖הּ לְמָרְדֳּכָ֑י וַתָּ֧שֶׂם אֶסְתֵּ֛ר אֶֽת־מָרְדֳּכַ֖י עַל־בֵּ֥ית הָמָֽן׃ פ

‎3 ‏וַתּ֣וֹסֶף אֶסְתֵּ֗ר וַתְּדַבֵּר֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַתִּפֹּ֖ל לִפְנֵ֣י רַגְלָ֑יו וַתֵּ֣בְךְּ וַתִּתְחַנֶּן־ל֗וֹ לְהַֽעֲבִיר֙ אֶת־רָעַת֙ הָמָ֣ן הָֽאֲגָגִ֔י וְאֵת֙ מַֽחֲשַׁבְתּ֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר חָשַׁ֖ב עַל־הַיְּהוּדִֽים׃

‎4 ‏וַיּ֤וֹשֶׁט הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ לְאֶסְתֵּ֔ר אֵ֖ת שַׁרְבִ֣ט הַזָּהָ֑ב וַתָּ֣קָם אֶסְתֵּ֔ר וַֽתַּעֲמֹ֖ד לִפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

‎5 ‏וַ֠תֹּאמֶר אִם־עַל־הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ ט֜וֹב וְאִם־מָצָ֧אתִי חֵ֣ן לְפָנָ֗יו וְכָשֵׁ֤ר הַדָּבָר֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְטוֹבָ֥ה אֲנִ֖י בְּעֵינָ֑יו יִכָּתֵ֞ב לְהָשִׁ֣יב אֶת־הַסְּפָרִ֗ים מַחֲשֶׁ֜בֶת הָמָ֤ן בֶּֽן־הַמְּדָ֙תָא֙ הָאֲגָגִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֣ר כָּתַ֗ב לְאַבֵּד֙ אֶת־הַיְּהוּדִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּכָל־מְדִינ֥וֹת הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

‎6 ‏כִּ֠י אֵיכָכָ֤ה אוּכַל֙ וְֽרָאִ֔יתִי בָּרָעָ֖ה אֲשֶׁר־יִמְצָ֣א אֶת־עַמִּ֑י וְאֵֽיכָכָ֤ה אוּכַל֙ וְֽרָאִ֔יתִי בְּאָבְדַ֖ן מוֹלַדְתִּֽי׃ ס

‎7 ‏וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ אֲחַשְׁוֵרֹשׁ֙ לְאֶסְתֵּ֣ר הַמַּלְכָּ֔ה וּֽלְמָרְדֳּכַ֖י הַיְּהוּדִ֑י הִנֵּ֨ה בֵית־הָמָ֜ן נָתַ֣תִּי לְאֶסְתֵּ֗ר וְאֹתוֹ֙ תָּל֣וּ עַל־הָעֵ֔ץ עַ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַ֥ח יָד֖וֹ ביהודיים בַּיְּהוּדִֽים׃

‎8 ‏וְ֠אַתֶּם כִּתְב֨וּ עַל־הַיְּהוּדִ֜ים כַּטּ֤וֹב בְּעֵֽינֵיכֶם֙ בְּשֵׁ֣ם הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְחִתְמ֖וּ בְּטַבַּ֣עַת הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ כִּֽי־כְתָ֞ב אֲשֶׁר־נִכְתָּ֣ב בְּשֵׁם־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ וְנַחְתּ֛וֹם בְּטַבַּ֥עַת הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֵ֥ין לְהָשִֽׁיב׃

‎9 ‏וַיִּקָּרְא֣וּ סֹפְרֵֽי־הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ בָּֽעֵת־הַ֠הִיא בַּחֹ֨דֶשׁ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֜י הוּא־חֹ֣דֶשׁ סִיוָ֗ן בִּשְׁלוֹשָׁ֣ה וְעֶשְׂרִים֮ בּוֹ֒ וַיִּכָּתֵ֣ב כְּֽכָל־אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֣ה מָרְדֳּכַ֣י אֶל־הַיְּהוּדִ֡ים וְאֶ֣ל הָאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנִֽים־וְהַפַּחוֹת֩ וְשָׂרֵ֨י הַמְּדִינ֜וֹת אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ מֵהֹ֣דּוּ וְעַד־כּ֗וּשׁ שֶׁ֣בַע וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים וּמֵאָה֙ מְדִינָ֔ה מְדִינָ֤ה וּמְדִינָה֙ כִּכְתָבָ֔הּ וְעַ֥ם וָעָ֖ם כִּלְשֹׁנ֑וֹ וְאֶ֨ל־הַיְּהוּדִ֔ים כִּכְתָבָ֖ם וְכִלְשׁוֹנָֽם׃

‎10 ‏וַיִּכְתֹּ֗ב בְּשֵׁם֙ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אֲחַשְׁוֵרֹ֔שׁ וַיַּחְתֹּ֖ם בְּטַבַּ֣עַת הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח סְפָרִ֡ים בְּיַד֩ הָרָצִ֨ים בַּסּוּסִ֜ים רֹכְבֵ֤י הָרֶ֙כֶשׁ֙ הָֽאֲחַשְׁתְּרָנִ֔ים בְּנֵ֖י הָֽרַמָּכִֽים׃

‎11 ‏אֲשֶׁר֩ נָתַ֨ן הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ לַיְּהוּדִ֣ים׀ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּכָל־עִיר־וָעִ֗יר לְהִקָּהֵל֮ וְלַעֲמֹ֣ד עַל־נַפְשָׁם֒ לְהַשְׁמִיד֩ וְלַהֲרֹ֨ג וּלְאַבֵּ֜ד אֶת־כָּל־חֵ֨יל עַ֧ם וּמְדִינָ֛ה הַצָּרִ֥ים אֹתָ֖ם טַ֣ף וְנָשִׁ֑ים וּשְׁלָלָ֖ם לָבֽוֹז׃

‎12 ‏בְּי֣וֹם אֶחָ֔ד בְּכָל־מְדִינ֖וֹת הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אֲחַשְׁוֵר֑וֹשׁ בִּשְׁלוֹשָׁ֥ה עָשָׂ֛ר לְחֹ֥דֶשׁ שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂ֖ר הוּא־חֹ֥דֶשׁ אֲדָֽר׃

‎13 ‏פַּתְשֶׁ֣גֶן הַכְּתָ֗ב לְהִנָּ֤תֵֽן דָּת֙ בְּכָל־מְדִינָ֣ה וּמְדִינָ֔ה גָּל֖וּי לְכָל־הָעַמִּ֑ים וְלִהְי֨וֹת היהודיים הַיְּהוּדִ֤ים עתודים עֲתִידִים֙ לַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה לְהִנָּקֵ֖ם מֵאֹיְבֵיהֶֽם׃

‎14 ‏הָרָצִ֞ים רֹכְבֵ֤י הָרֶ֙כֶשׁ֙ הָֽאֲחַשְׁתְּרָנִ֔ים יָֽצְא֛וּ מְבֹהָלִ֥ים וּדְחוּפִ֖ים בִּדְבַ֣ר הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְהַדָּ֥ת נִתְּנָ֖ה בְּשׁוּשַׁ֥ן הַבִּירָֽה׃ פ

‎15 ‏וּמָרְדֳּכַ֞י יָצָ֣א׀ מִלִּפְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ בִּלְב֤וּשׁ מַלְכוּת֙ תְּכֵ֣לֶת וָח֔וּר וַעֲטֶ֤רֶת זָהָב֙ גְּדוֹלָ֔ה וְתַכְרִ֥יךְ בּ֖וּץ וְאַרְגָּמָ֑ן וְהָעִ֣יר שׁוּשָׁ֔ן צָהֲלָ֖ה וְשָׂמֵֽחָה׃

‎16 ‏לַיְּהוּדִ֕ים הָֽיְתָ֥ה אוֹרָ֖ה וְשִׂמְחָ֑ה וְשָׂשֹׂ֖ן וִיקָֽר׃

‎17 ‏וּבְכָל־מְדִינָ֨ה וּמְדִינָ֜ה וּבְכָל־עִ֣יר וָעִ֗יר מְקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר דְּבַר־הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ וְדָתוֹ֙ מַגִּ֔יעַ שִׂמְחָ֤ה וְשָׂשׂוֹן֙ לַיְּהוּדִ֔ים מִשְׁתֶּ֖ה וְי֣וֹם ט֑וֹב וְרַבִּ֞ים מֵֽעַמֵּ֤י הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ מִֽתְיַהֲדִ֔ים כִּֽי־נָפַ֥ל פַּֽחַד־הַיְּהוּדִ֖ים עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

Vul

1 Die illo dedit rex Assuerus Esther reginæ domum Aman adversarii Judæorum, et Mardochæus ingressus est ante faciem regis. Confessa est enim ei Esther quod esset patruus suus.

2 Tulitque rex annulum, quem ab Aman recipi jusserat, et tradidit Mardochæo. Esther autem constituit Mardochæum super domum suam.

3 Nec his contenta, procidit ad pedes regis, flevitque, et locuta ad eum oravit ut malitiam Aman Agagitæ, et machinationes ejus pessimas quas excogitaverat contra Judæos, juberet irritas fieri.

4 At ille ex more sceptrum aureum protendit manu, quo signum clementiæ monstrabatur: illaque consurgens stetit ante eum,

5 et ait: Si placet regi, et si inveni gratiam in oculis ejus, et deprecatio mea non ei videtur esse contraria, obsecro ut novis epistolis, veteres Aman litteræ, insidiatoris et hostis Judæorum, quibus eos in cunctis regis provinciis perire præceperat, corrigantur.

6 Quomodo enim potero sustinere necem et interfectionem populi mei?

7 Responditque rex Assuerus Esther reginæ, et Mardochæo Judæo: Domum Aman concessi Esther, et ipsum jussi affigi cruci, quia ausus est manum mittere in Judæos.

8 Scribite ergo Judæis, sicut vobis placet, regis nomine, signantes litteras annulo meo. Hæc enim consuetudo erat, ut epistolis, quæ ex regis nomine mittebantur et illius annulo signatæ erant, nemo auderet contradicere.

9 Accitisque scribis et librariis regis (erat autem tempus tertii mensis, qui appellatur Siban) vigesima et tertia die illius scriptæ sunt epistolæ, ut Mardochæus voluerat, ad Judæos, et ad principes, procuratoresque et judices, qui centum viginti septem provinciis ab India usque ad Æthiopiam præsidebant: provinciæ atque provinciæ, populo et populo juxta linguas et litteras suas, et Judæis, prout legere poterant et audire.

10 Ipsæque epistolæ, quæ regis nomine mittebantur, annulo ipsius obsignatæ sunt, et missæ per veredarios: qui per omnes provincias discurrentes, veteres litteras novis nuntiis prævenirent.

11 Quibus imperavit rex, ut convenirent Judæos per singulas civitates, et in unum præciperent congregari ut starent pro animabus suis, et omnes inimicos suos cum conjugibus ac liberis et universis domibus, interficerent atque delerent, et spolia eorum diriperent.

12 Et constituta est per omnes provincias una ultionis dies, id est tertiadecima mensis duodecimi Adar.

13 Summaque epistolæ hæc fuit, ut in omnibus terris ac populis qui regis Assueri subjacebant imperio, notum fieret paratos esse Judæos ad capiendam vindictam de hostibus suis.

14 Egressique sunt veredarii celeres nuntia perferentes, et edictum regis pependit in Susan.

15 Mardochæus autem de palatio et de conspectu regis egrediens, fulgebat vestibus regiis, hyacinthinis videlicet et æriis, coronam auream portans in capite, et amictus serico pallio atque purpureo. Omnisque civitas exultavit atque lætata est.

16 Judæis autem nova lux oriri visa est, gaudium, honor, et tripudium.

17 Apud omnes populos, urbes, atque provincias, quocumque regis jussa veniebant, mira exultatio, epulæ atque convivia, et festus dies: in tantum ut plures alterius gentis et sectæ eorum religioni et cæremoniis jungerentur. Grandis enim cunctos judaici nominis terror invaserat.
