1  The word¹⁶⁹⁷ of the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ that⁸³⁴ came¹⁹⁶¹ to⁴¹³ Joel³¹⁰⁰ the son¹¹²¹ of Pethuel.⁶⁶⁰²

2  Hear⁸⁰⁸⁵ this,²⁰⁶³ ye old men,²²⁰⁵ and give ear,²³⁸ all³⁶⁰⁵ ye inhabitants³⁴²⁷ of the land.⁷⁷⁶ Hath this²⁰⁶³ been¹⁹⁶¹ in your days,³¹¹⁷ or even⁵¹⁸ in the days³¹¹⁷ of your fathers?¹

3  Tell⁵⁶⁰⁸ ye your children¹¹²¹ of⁵⁹²¹ it, and let your children¹¹²¹ tell their children,¹¹²¹ and their children¹¹²¹ another³¹² generation.¹⁷⁵⁵

4  That which the palmerworm¹⁵⁰¹ hath left³⁴⁹⁹ hath the locust⁶⁹⁷ eaten;³⁹⁸ and that which the locust⁶⁹⁷ hath left³⁴⁹⁹ hath the cankerworm³²¹⁸ eaten;³⁹⁸ and that which the cankerworm³²¹⁸ hath left³⁴⁹⁹ hath the caterpillar²⁶²⁵ eaten.³⁹⁸

5  Awake,⁶⁹⁷⁴ ye drunkards,⁷⁹¹⁰ and weep;¹⁰⁵⁸ and howl,³²¹³ all³⁶⁰⁵ ye drinkers⁸³⁵⁴ of wine,³¹⁹⁶ because of⁵⁹²¹ the new wine;⁶⁰⁷¹ for³⁵⁸⁸ it is cut off³⁷⁷² from your mouth.^{4480 6310}

6  For³⁵⁸⁸ a nation¹⁴⁷¹ is come up⁵⁹²⁷ upon⁵⁹²¹ my land,⁷⁷⁶ strong,⁶⁰⁹⁹ and without³⁶⁹ number,⁴⁵⁵⁷ whose teeth⁸¹²⁷ are the teeth⁸¹²⁷ of a lion,⁷³⁸ and he hath the cheek teeth⁴⁹⁷³ of a great lion.³⁸³³

7  He hath laid⁷⁷⁶⁰ my vine¹⁶¹² waste,⁸⁰⁴⁷ and barked⁷¹¹¹ my fig tree:⁸³⁸⁴ he hath made it clean bare,^{2834 2834} and cast it away;⁷⁹⁹³ the branches⁸²⁹⁹ thereof are made white.³⁸³⁵

8  Lament⁴²¹ like a virgin¹³³⁰ girded²²⁹⁶ with sackcloth⁸²⁴² for⁵⁹²¹ the husband¹¹⁶⁷ of her youth.⁵²⁷¹

9  The meat offering⁴⁵⁰³ and the drink offering⁵²⁶² is cut off³⁷⁷² from the house^{4480 1004} of the LORD;³⁰⁶⁸ the priests,³⁵⁴⁸ the LORD's³⁰⁶⁸ ministers,⁸³³⁴ mourn.⁵⁶

10  The field⁷⁷⁰⁴ is wasted,⁷⁷⁰³ the land¹²⁷ mourneth;⁵⁶ for³⁵⁸⁸ the corn¹⁷¹⁵ is wasted:⁷⁷⁰³ the new wine⁸⁴⁹² is dried up,³⁰⁰¹ the oil³³²³ languisheth.⁵³⁵

11  Be ye ashamed,⁹⁵⁴ O ye husbandmen;⁴⁰⁶ howl,³²¹³ O ye vinedressers,³⁷⁵⁵ for⁵⁹²¹ the wheat²⁴⁰⁶ and for⁵⁹²¹ the barley;⁸¹⁸⁴ because³⁵⁸⁸ the harvest⁷¹⁰⁵ of the field⁷⁷⁰⁴ is perished.⁶

12  The vine¹⁶¹² is dried up,³⁰⁰¹ and the fig tree⁸³⁸⁴ languisheth;⁵³⁵ the pomegranate tree,⁷⁴¹⁶ the palm tree⁸⁵⁵⁸ also,¹⁵⁷¹ and the apple tree,⁸⁵⁹⁸ even all³⁶⁰⁵ the trees⁶⁰⁸⁶ of the field,⁷⁷⁰⁴ are withered:³⁰⁰¹ because³⁵⁸⁸ joy⁸³⁴² is withered away³⁰⁰¹ from⁴⁴⁸⁰ the sons¹¹²¹ of men.¹²⁰

13  Gird²²⁹⁶ yourselves, and lament,⁵⁵⁹⁴ ye priests:³⁵⁴⁸ howl,³²¹³ ye ministers⁸³³⁴ of the altar:⁴¹⁹⁶ come,⁹³⁵ lie all night³⁸⁸⁵ in sackcloth,⁸²⁴² ye ministers⁸³³⁴ of my God:⁴³⁰ for³⁵⁸⁸ the meat offering⁴⁵⁰³ and the drink offering⁵²⁶² is withheld⁴⁵¹³ from the house^{4480 1004} of your God.⁴³⁰

14  Sanctify⁶⁹⁴² ye a fast,⁶⁶⁸⁵ call⁷¹²¹ a solemn assembly,⁶¹¹⁶ gather⁶²² the elders²²⁰⁵ and all³⁶⁰⁵ the inhabitants³⁴²⁷ of the land⁷⁷⁶ into the house¹⁰⁰⁴ of the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ your God,⁴³⁰ and cry²¹⁹⁹ unto⁴¹³ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸

15  Alas¹⁶² for the day!³¹¹⁷ for³⁵⁸⁸ the day³¹¹⁷ of the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ is at hand,⁷¹³⁸ and as a destruction⁷⁷⁰¹ from the Almighty^{4480 7706} shall it come.⁹³⁵

16  Is not³⁸⁰⁸ the meat⁴⁰⁰ cut off³⁷⁷² before⁵⁰⁴⁸ our eyes,⁵⁸⁶⁹ yea, joy⁸⁰⁵⁷ and gladness¹⁵²⁴ from the house^{4480 1004} of our God?⁴³⁰

17  The seed⁶⁵⁰⁷ is rotten⁵⁶⁸⁵ under⁸⁴⁷⁸ their clods,⁴⁰⁵³ the garners²¹⁴ are laid desolate,⁸⁰⁷⁴ the barns⁴⁴⁶⁰ are broken down;²⁰⁴⁰ for³⁵⁸⁸ the corn¹⁷¹⁵ is withered.³⁰⁰¹

18  How⁴¹⁰⁰ do the beasts⁹²⁹ groan!⁵⁸⁴ the herds⁵⁷³⁹ of cattle¹²⁴¹ are perplexed,⁹⁴³ because³⁵⁸⁸ they have no³⁶⁹ pasture;⁴⁸²⁹ yea,¹⁵⁷¹ the flocks⁵⁷³⁹ of sheep⁶⁶²⁹ are made desolate.⁸¹⁶

19  O LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ to⁴¹³ thee will I cry:⁷¹²¹ for³⁵⁸⁸ the fire⁷⁸⁴ hath devoured³⁹⁸ the pastures⁴⁹⁹⁹ of the wilderness,⁴⁰⁵⁷ and the flame³⁸⁵² hath burned³⁸⁵⁷ all³⁶⁰⁵ the trees⁶⁰⁸⁶ of the field.⁷⁷⁰⁴

20  The beasts⁹²⁹ of the field⁷⁷⁰⁴ cry⁶¹⁶⁵ also¹⁵⁷¹ unto⁴¹³ thee: for³⁵⁸⁸ the rivers⁶⁵⁰ of waters⁴³²⁵ are dried up,³⁰⁰¹ and the fire⁷⁸⁴ hath devoured³⁹⁸ the pastures⁴⁹⁹⁹ of the wilderness.⁴⁰⁵⁷

1 λόγος κυρίου ὃς ἐγενήθη πρὸς Ιωηλ τὸν τοῦ Βαθουηλ

2 ἀκούσατε δὴ ταῦτα οἱ πρεσβύτεροι καὶ ἐνωτίσασθε πάντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὴν γῆν εἰ γέγονεν τοιαῦτα ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ὑμῶν ἢ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν

3 ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν διηγήσασθε καὶ τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν τοῖς τέκνοις αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν εἰς γενεὰν ἑτέραν

4 τὰ κατάλοιπα τῆς κάμπης κατέφαγεν ἡ ἀκρίς καὶ τὰ κατάλοιπα τῆς ἀκρίδος κατέφαγεν ὁ βροῦχος καὶ τὰ κατάλοιπα τοῦ βρούχου κατέφαγεν ἡ ἐρυσίβη

5 ἐκνήψατε οἱ μεθύοντες ἐξ οἴνου αὐτῶν καὶ κλαύσατε θρηνήσατε πάντες οἱ πίνοντες οἶνον εἰς μέθην ὅτι ἐξῆρται ἐκ στόματος ὑμῶν εὐφροσύνη καὶ χαρά

6 ὅτι ἔθνος ἀνέβη ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν μου ἰσχυρὸν καὶ ἀναρίθμητον οἱ ὀδόντες αὐτοῦ ὀδόντες λέοντος καὶ αἱ μύλαι αὐτοῦ σκύμνου

7 ἔθετο τὴν ἄμπελόν μου εἰς ἀφανισμὸν καὶ τὰς συκᾶς μου εἰς συγκλασμόν ἐρευνῶν ἐξηρεύνησεν αὐτὴν καὶ ἔρριψεν ἐλεύκανεν κλήματα αὐτῆς

8 θρήνησον πρός με ὑπὲρ νύμφην περιεζωσμένην σάκκον ἐπὶ τὸν ἄνδρα αὐτῆς τὸν παρθενικόν

9 ἐξῆρται θυσία καὶ σπονδὴ ἐξ οἴκου κυρίου πενθεῖτε οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ λειτουργοῦντες θυσιαστηρίῳ

10 ὅτι τεταλαιπώρηκεν τὰ πεδία πενθείτω ἡ γῆ ὅτι τεταλαιπώρηκεν σῖτος ἐξηράνθη οἶνος ὠλιγώθη ἔλαιον

11 ἐξηράνθησαν οἱ γεωργοί θρηνεῖτε κτήματα ὑπὲρ πυροῦ καὶ κριθῆς ὅτι ἀπόλωλεν τρυγητὸς ἐξ ἀγροῦ

12 ἡ ἄμπελος ἐξηράνθη καὶ αἱ συκαῖ ὠλιγώθησαν ῥόα καὶ φοῖνιξ καὶ μῆλον καὶ πάντα τὰ ξύλα τοῦ ἀγροῦ ἐξηράνθησαν ὅτι ᾔσχυναν χαρὰν οἱ υἱοὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων

13 περιζώσασθε καὶ κόπτεσθε οἱ ἱερεῖς θρηνεῖτε οἱ λειτουργοῦντες θυσιαστηρίῳ εἰσέλθατε ὑπνώσατε ἐν σάκκοις λειτουργοῦντες θεῷ ὅτι ἀπέσχηκεν ἐξ οἴκου θεοῦ ὑμῶν θυσία καὶ σπονδή

14 ἁγιάσατε νηστείαν κηρύξατε θεραπείαν συναγάγετε πρεσβυτέρους πάντας κατοικοῦντας γῆν εἰς οἶκον θεοῦ ὑμῶν καὶ κεκράξατε πρὸς κύριον ἐκτενῶς

15 οἴμμοι οἴμμοι οἴμμοι εἰς ἡμέραν ὅτι ἐγγὺς ἡμέρα κυρίου καὶ ὡς ταλαιπωρία ἐκ ταλαιπωρίας ἥξει

16 κατέναντι τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν ὑμῶν βρώματα ἐξωλεθρεύθη ἐξ οἴκου θεοῦ ὑμῶν εὐφροσύνη καὶ χαρά

17 ἐσκίρτησαν δαμάλεις ἐπὶ ταῖς φάτναις αὐτῶν ἠφανίσθησαν θησαυροί κατεσκάφησαν ληνοί ὅτι ἐξηράνθη σῖτος

18 τί ἀποθήσομεν ἑαυτοῖς ἔκλαυσαν βουκόλια βοῶν ὅτι οὐχ ὑπῆρχεν νομὴ αὐτοῖς καὶ τὰ ποίμνια τῶν προβάτων ἠφανίσθησαν

19 πρὸς σέ κύριε βοήσομαι ὅτι πῦρ ἀνήλωσεν τὰ ὡραῖα τῆς ἐρήμου καὶ φλὸξ ἀνῆψεν πάντα τὰ ξύλα τοῦ ἀγροῦ

20 καὶ τὰ κτήνη τοῦ πεδίου ἀνέβλεψαν πρὸς σέ ὅτι ἐξηράνθησαν ἀφέσεις ὑδάτων καὶ πῦρ κατέφαγεν τὰ ὡραῖα τῆς ἐρήμου

‎1 ‏דְּבַר־יְהוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֔ה אֶל־יוֹאֵ֖ל בֶּן־פְּתוּאֵֽל׃

‎2 ‏שִׁמְעוּ־זֹאת֙ הַזְּקֵנִ֔ים וְהַֽאֲזִ֔ינוּ כֹּ֖ל יוֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֑רֶץ הֶהָ֤יְתָה זֹּאת֙ בִּֽימֵיכֶ֔ם וְאִ֖ם בִּימֵ֥י אֲבֹֽתֵיכֶֽם׃

‎3 ‏עָלֶ֖יהָ לִבְנֵיכֶ֣ם סַפֵּ֑רוּ וּבְנֵיכֶם֙ לִבְנֵיהֶ֔ם וּבְנֵיהֶ֖ם לְד֥וֹר אַחֵֽר׃

‎4 ‏יֶ֤תֶר הַגָּזָם֙ אָכַ֣ל הָֽאַרְבֶּ֔ה וְיֶ֥תֶר הָאַרְבֶּ֖ה אָכַ֣ל הַיָּ֑לֶק וְיֶ֣תֶר הַיֶּ֔לֶק אָכַ֖ל הֶחָסִֽיל׃

‎5 ‏הָקִ֤יצוּ שִׁכּוֹרִים֙ וּבְכ֔וּ וְהֵילִ֖לוּ כָּל־שֹׁ֣תֵי יָ֑יִן עַל־עָסִ֕יס כִּ֥י נִכְרַ֖ת מִפִּיכֶֽם׃

‎6 ‏כִּֽי־גוֹי֙ עָלָ֣ה עַל־אַרְצִ֔י עָצ֖וּם וְאֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֑ר שִׁנָּיו֙ שִׁנֵּ֣י אַרְיֵ֔ה וּֽמְתַלְּע֥וֹת לָבִ֖יא לֽוֹ׃

‎7 ‏שָׂ֤ם גַּפְנִי֙ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה וּתְאֵנָתִ֖י לִקְצָפָ֑ה חָשֹׂ֤ף חֲשָׂפָהּ֙ וְהִשְׁלִ֔יךְ הִלְבִּ֖ינוּ שָׂרִיגֶֽיהָ׃

‎8 ‏אֱלִ֕י כִּבְתוּלָ֥ה חֲגֻֽרַת־שַׂ֖ק עַל־בַּ֥עַל נְעוּרֶֽיהָ׃

‎9 ‏הָכְרַ֥ת מִנְחָ֛ה וָנֶ֖סֶךְ מִבֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה אָֽבְלוּ֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים מְשָׁרְתֵ֖י יְהוָֽה׃

‎10 ‏שֻׁדַּ֣ד שָׂדֶ֔ה אָבְלָ֖ה אֲדָמָ֑ה כִּ֚י שֻׁדַּ֣ד דָּגָ֔ן הוֹבִ֥ישׁ תִּיר֖וֹשׁ אֻמְלַ֥ל יִצְהָֽר׃

‎11 ‏הֹבִ֣ישׁוּ אִכָּרִ֗ים הֵילִ֙ילוּ֙ כֹּֽרְמִ֔ים עַל־חִטָּ֖ה וְעַל־שְׂעֹרָ֑ה כִּ֥י אָבַ֖ד קְצִ֥יר שָׂדֶֽה׃

‎12 ‏הַגֶּ֣פֶן הוֹבִ֔ישָׁה וְהַתְּאֵנָ֖ה אֻמְלָ֑לָה רִמּ֞וֹן גַּם־תָּמָ֣ר וְתַפּ֗וּחַ כָּל־עֲצֵ֤י הַשָּׂדֶה֙ יָבֵ֔שׁוּ כִּֽי־הֹבִ֥ישׁ שָׂשׂ֖וֹן מִן־בְּנֵ֥י אָדָֽם׃ ס

‎13 ‏חִגְר֨וּ וְסִפְד֜וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים הֵילִ֙ילוּ֙ מְשָׁרְתֵ֣י מִזְבֵּ֔חַ בֹּ֚אוּ לִ֣ינוּ בַשַּׂקִּ֔ים מְשָׁרְתֵ֖י אֱלֹהָ֑י כִּ֥י נִמְנַ֛ע מִבֵּ֥ית אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם מִנְחָ֥ה וָנָֽסֶךְ׃

‎14 ‏קַדְּשׁוּ־צוֹם֙ קִרְא֣וּ עֲצָרָ֔ה אִסְפ֣וּ זְקֵנִ֗ים כֹּ֚ל יֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ בֵּ֖ית יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם וְזַעֲק֖וּ אֶל־יְהוָֽה׃

‎15 ‏אֲהָ֖הּ לַיּ֑וֹם כִּ֤י קָרוֹב֙ י֣וֹם יְהוָ֔ה וּכְשֹׁ֖ד מִשַׁדַּ֥י¹ יָבֽוֹא׃

‎16 ‏הֲל֛וֹא נֶ֥גֶד עֵינֵ֖ינוּ אֹ֣כֶל נִכְרָ֑ת מִבֵּ֥ית אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ שִׂמְחָ֥ה וָגִֽיל׃

‎17 ‏עָבְשׁ֣וּ פְרֻד֗וֹת תַּ֚חַת מֶגְרְפֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם נָשַׁ֙מּוּ֙ אֹֽצָר֔וֹת נֶהֶרְס֖וּ מַמְּגֻר֑וֹת כִּ֥י הֹבִ֖ישׁ דָּגָֽן׃

‎18 ‏מַה־נֶּאֶנְחָ֣ה בְהֵמָ֗ה נָבֹ֙כוּ֙ עֶדְרֵ֣י בָקָ֔ר כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין מִרְעֶ֖ה לָהֶ֑ם גַּם־עֶדְרֵ֥י הַצֹּ֖אן נֶאְשָֽׁמוּ׃

‎19 ‏אֵלֶ֥יךָ יְהוָ֖ה אֶקְרָ֑א כִּ֣י אֵ֗שׁ אָֽכְלָה֙ נְא֣וֹת מִדְבָּ֔ר וְלֶ֣הָבָ֔ה לִהֲטָ֖ה כָּל־עֲצֵ֥י הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃

‎20 ‏גַּם־בַּהֲמ֥וֹת שָׂדֶ֖ה תַּעֲר֣וֹג אֵלֶ֑יךָ כִּ֤י יָֽבְשׁוּ֙ אֲפִ֣יקֵי מָ֔יִם וְאֵ֕שׁ אָכְלָ֖ה נְא֥וֹת הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃ פ

Vul

1 Verbum Domini, quod factum est ad Joël, filium Phatuel.

2 [Audite hoc, senes,
et auribus percipite, omnes habitatores terræ:
si factum est istud in diebus vestris,
aut in diebus patrum vestrorum?

3 Super hoc filiis vestris narrate,
et filii vestri filiis suis,
et filii eorum generationi alteræ.

4 Residuum erucæ comedit locusta,
et residuum locustæ comedit bruchus,
et residuum bruchi comedit rubigo.

5 Expergiscimini, ebrii,
et flete et ululate, omnes qui bibitis vinum in dulcedine,
quoniam periit ab ore vestro.

6 Gens enim ascendit super terram meam,
fortis et innumerabilis:
dentes ejus ut dentes leonis,
et molares ejus ut catuli leonis.

7 Posuit vineam meam in desertum,
et ficum meam decorticavit;
nudans spoliavit eam, et projecit:
albi facti sunt rami ejus.

8 Plange quasi virgo accincta sacco super virum pubertatis suæ.

9 Periit sacrificium et libatio de domo Domini;
luxerunt sacerdotes, ministri Domini.

10 Depopulata est regio,
luxit humus,
quoniam devastatum est triticum,
confusum est vinum,
elanguit oleum.

11 Confusi sunt agricolæ,
ululaverunt vinitores
super frumento et hordeo,
quia periit messis agri.

12 Vinea confusa est,
et ficus elanguit;
malogranatum, et palma, et malum,
et omnia ligna agri aruerunt,
quia confusum est gaudium a filiis hominum.

13 Accingite vos, et plangite, sacerdotes:
ululate, ministri altaris;
ingredimini, cubate in sacco, ministri Dei mei,
quoniam interiit de domo Dei vestri sacrificium et libatio.

14 Sanctificate jejunium, vocate cœtum,
congregate senes, omnes habitatores terræ
in domum Dei vestri,
et clamate ad Dominum:

15 A, a, a, diei!
quia prope est dies Domini,
et quasi vastitas a potente veniet.

16 Numquid non coram oculis vestris alimenta perierunt
de domo Dei nostri, lætitia et exsultatio?

17 Computruerunt jumenta in stercore suo,
demolita sunt horrea,
dissipatæ sunt apothecæ,
quoniam confusum est triticum.

18 Quid ingemuit animal,
mugierunt greges armenti?
quia non est pascua eis;
sed et greges pecorum disperierunt.

19 Ad te, Domine, clamabo,
quia ignis comedit speciosa deserti,
et flamma succendit omnia ligna regionis.

20 Sed et bestiæ agri, quasi area sitiens imbrem, suspexerunt ad te,
quoniam exsiccati sunt fontes aquarum,
et ignis devoravit speciosa deserti.]
