1  And Ben-hadad¹¹³⁰ the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Syria⁷⁵⁸ gathered all his host together:^{6908 853 3605 2428} and there were thirty⁷⁹⁷⁰ and two⁸¹⁴⁷ kings⁴⁴²⁸ with⁸⁵⁴ him, and horses,⁵⁴⁸³ and chariots:⁷³⁹³ and he went up⁵⁹²⁷ and besieged^{6696 5921} Samaria,⁸¹¹¹ and warred³⁸⁹⁸ against it.

2  And he sent⁷⁹⁷¹ messengers⁴³⁹⁷ to⁴¹³ Ahab²⁵⁶ king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ into the city,⁵⁸⁹² and said⁵⁵⁹ unto him, Thus³⁵⁴¹ saith⁵⁵⁹ Ben-hadad,¹¹³⁰

3  Thy silver³⁷⁰¹ and thy gold²⁰⁹¹ is mine; thy wives⁸⁰² also and thy children,¹¹²¹ even the goodliest,²⁸⁹⁶ are mine.

4  And the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ answered⁶⁰³⁰ and said,⁵⁵⁹ My lord,¹¹³ O king,⁴⁴²⁸ according to thy saying,¹⁶⁹⁷ I⁵⁸⁹ am thine, and all³⁶⁰⁵ that⁸³⁴ I have.

5  And the messengers⁴³⁹⁷ came again,⁷⁷²⁵ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Thus³⁵⁴¹ speaketh⁵⁵⁹ Ben-hadad,¹¹³⁰ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Although³⁵⁸⁸ I have sent⁷⁹⁷¹ unto⁴¹³ thee, saying,⁵⁵⁹ Thou shalt deliver⁵⁴¹⁴ me thy silver,³⁷⁰¹ and thy gold,²⁰⁹¹ and thy wives,⁸⁰² and thy children;¹¹²¹

6  Yet³⁵⁸⁸ I will send^{7971 853} my servants⁵⁶⁵⁰ unto⁴¹³ thee tomorrow⁴²⁷⁹ about⁵¹⁸ this time,⁶²⁵⁶ and they shall search^{2664 853} thine house,¹⁰⁰⁴ and the houses¹⁰⁰⁴ of thy servants;⁵⁶⁵⁰ and it shall be,¹⁹⁶¹ that whatsoever³⁶⁰⁵ is pleasant⁴²⁶¹ in thine eyes,⁵⁸⁶⁹ they shall put⁷⁷⁶⁰ it in their hand,³⁰²⁷ and take it away.³⁹⁴⁷

7  Then the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ called⁷¹²¹ all³⁶⁰⁵ the elders²²⁰⁵ of the land,⁷⁷⁶ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Mark,³⁰⁴⁵ I pray you,⁴⁹⁹⁴ and see⁷²⁰⁰ how³⁵⁸⁸ this²⁰⁸⁸ man seeketh¹²⁴⁵ mischief:⁷⁴⁵¹ for³⁵⁸⁸ he sent⁷⁹⁷¹ unto⁴¹³ me for my wives,⁸⁰² and for my children,¹¹²¹ and for my silver,³⁷⁰¹ and for my gold;²⁰⁹¹ and I denied^{4513 4480} him not.³⁸⁰⁸

8  And all³⁶⁰⁵ the elders²²⁰⁵ and all³⁶⁰⁵ the people⁵⁹⁷¹ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Hearken⁸⁰⁸⁵ not⁴⁰⁸ unto him, nor³⁸⁰⁸ consent.¹⁴

9  Wherefore he said⁵⁵⁹ unto the messengers⁴³⁹⁷ of Ben-hadad,¹¹³⁰ Tell⁵⁵⁹ my lord¹¹³ the king,⁴⁴²⁸ All³⁶⁰⁵ that⁸³⁴ thou didst send⁷⁹⁷¹ for to⁴¹³ thy servant⁵⁶⁵⁰ at the first⁷²²³ I will do:⁶²¹³ but this²⁰⁸⁸ thing¹⁶⁹⁷ I may³²⁰¹ not³⁸⁰⁸ do.⁶²¹³ And the messengers⁴³⁹⁷ departed,¹⁹⁸⁰ and brought⁷⁷²⁵ him word¹⁶⁹⁷ again.

10  And Ben-hadad¹¹³⁰ sent⁷⁹⁷¹ unto⁴¹³ him, and said,⁵⁵⁹ The gods⁴³⁰ do⁶²¹³ so³⁵⁴¹ unto me, and more³²⁵⁴ also,³⁵⁴¹ if⁵¹⁸ the dust⁶⁰⁸³ of Samaria⁸¹¹¹ shall suffice⁵⁶⁰⁶ for handfuls⁸¹⁶⁸ for all³⁶⁰⁵ the people⁵⁹⁷¹ that⁸³⁴ follow⁷²⁷² me.

11  And the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ answered⁶⁰³⁰ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Tell¹⁶⁹⁶ him, Let not⁴⁰⁸ him that girdeth²²⁹⁶ on his harness boast himself¹⁹⁸⁴ as he that putteth it off.⁶⁶⁰⁵

12  And it came to pass,¹⁹⁶¹ when Ben-hadad heard^{8085 853} this²⁰⁸⁸ message,¹⁶⁹⁷ as he¹⁹³¹ was drinking,⁸³⁵⁴ he¹⁹³¹ and the kings⁴⁴²⁸ in the pavilions,⁵⁵²¹ that he said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ his servants,⁵⁶⁵⁰ Set⁷⁷⁶⁰ yourselves in array. And they set⁷⁷⁶⁰ themselves in array against⁵⁹²¹ the city.⁵⁸⁹²

13  And, behold,²⁰⁰⁹ there came⁵⁰⁶⁶ a²⁵⁹ prophet⁵⁰³⁰ unto⁴¹³ Ahab²⁵⁶ king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Thus³⁵⁴¹ saith⁵⁵⁹ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ Hast thou seen^{7200 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ this²⁰⁸⁸ great¹⁴¹⁹ multitude?¹⁹⁹⁵ behold,²⁰⁰⁹ I will deliver⁵⁴¹⁴ it into thine hand³⁰²⁷ this day;³¹¹⁷ and thou shalt know³⁰⁴⁵ that³⁵⁸⁸ I⁵⁸⁹ am the LORD.³⁰⁶⁸

14  And Ahab²⁵⁶ said,⁵⁵⁹ By whom?⁴³¹⁰ And he said,⁵⁵⁹ Thus³⁵⁴¹ saith⁵⁵⁹ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ Even by the young men⁵²⁸⁸ of the princes⁸²⁶⁹ of the provinces.⁴⁰⁸² Then he said,⁵⁵⁹ Who⁴³¹⁰ shall order⁶³¹ the battle?⁴⁴²¹ And he answered,⁵⁵⁹ Thou.⁸⁵⁹

15  Then he numbered^{6485 853} the young men⁵²⁸⁸ of the princes⁸²⁶⁹ of the provinces,⁴⁰⁸² and they were¹⁹⁶¹ two hundred³⁹⁶⁷ and thirty⁷⁹⁷⁰ two:⁸¹⁴⁷ and after³¹⁰ them he numbered^{6485 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ the people,⁵⁹⁷¹ even all³⁶⁰⁵ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ being seven⁷⁶⁵¹ thousand.⁵⁰⁵

16  And they went out³³¹⁸ at noon.⁶⁶⁷² But Ben-hadad¹¹³⁰ was drinking⁸³⁵⁴ himself drunk⁷⁹¹⁰ in the pavilions,⁵⁵²¹ he¹⁹³¹ and the kings,⁴⁴²⁸ the thirty⁷⁹⁷⁰ and two⁸¹⁴⁷ kings⁴⁴²⁸ that helped⁵⁸²⁶ him.

17  And the young men⁵²⁸⁸ of the princes⁸²⁶⁹ of the provinces⁴⁰⁸² went out³³¹⁸ first;⁷²²³ and Ben-hadad¹¹³⁰ sent out,⁷⁹⁷¹ and they told⁵⁰⁴⁶ him, saying,⁵⁵⁹ There are men³⁷⁶ come out³³¹⁸ of Samaria.^{4480 8111}

18  And he said,⁵⁵⁹ Whether⁵¹⁸ they be come out³³¹⁸ for peace,⁷⁹⁶⁵ take⁸⁶¹⁰ them alive;²⁴¹⁶ or whether⁵¹⁸ they be come out³³¹⁸ for war,⁴⁴²¹ take⁸⁶¹⁰ them alive.²⁴¹⁶

19  So these⁴²⁸ young men⁵²⁸⁸ of the princes⁸²⁶⁹ of the provinces⁴⁰⁸² came out³³¹⁸ of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the city,⁵⁸⁹² and the army²⁴²⁸ which⁸³⁴ followed³¹⁰ them.

20  And they slew⁵²²¹ every one³⁷⁶ his man:³⁷⁶ and the Syrians⁷⁵⁸ fled;⁵¹²⁷ and Israel³⁴⁷⁸ pursued⁷²⁹¹ them: and Ben-hadad¹¹³⁰ the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Syria⁷⁵⁸ escaped⁴⁴²² on⁵⁹²¹ a horse⁵⁴⁸³ with the horsemen.⁶⁵⁷¹

21  And the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ went out,³³¹⁸ and smote^{5221 853} the horses⁵⁴⁸³ and chariots,⁷³⁹³ and slew⁵²²¹ the Syrians⁷⁵⁸ with a great¹⁴¹⁹ slaughter.⁴³⁴⁷

22  And the prophet⁵⁰³⁰ came⁵⁰⁶⁶ to⁴¹³ the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ and said⁵⁵⁹ unto him, Go,¹⁹⁸⁰ strengthen thyself,²³⁸⁸ and mark,³⁰⁴⁵ and see^{7200 853} what⁸³⁴ thou doest:⁶²¹³ for³⁵⁸⁸ at the return⁸⁶⁶⁶ of the year⁸¹⁴¹ the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Syria⁷⁵⁸ will come up⁵⁹²⁷ against⁵⁹²¹ thee.

23  And the servants⁵⁶⁵⁰ of the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Syria⁷⁵⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Their gods⁴³⁰ are gods⁴³⁰ of the hills;²⁰²² therefore^{5921 3651} they were stronger²³⁸⁸ than⁴⁴⁸⁰ we; but¹⁹⁹ let us fight³⁸⁹⁸ against⁸⁵⁴ them in the plain,⁴³³⁴ and surely,⁵¹⁸ we shall be stronger^{3808 2388} than⁴⁴⁸⁰ they.

24  And do⁶²¹³ this²⁰⁸⁸ thing,¹⁶⁹⁷ Take the kings away,^{5493 4428} every man³⁷⁶ out of his place,^{4480 4725} and put⁷⁷⁶⁰ captains⁶³⁴⁶ in their rooms:⁸⁴⁷⁸

25  And number^{859 4487} thee an army,²⁴²⁸ like the army²⁴²⁸ that thou hast lost,^{5307 4480 853} horse⁵⁴⁸³ for horse,⁵⁴⁸³ and chariot⁷³⁹³ for chariot:⁷³⁹³ and we will fight against³⁸⁹⁸ them in the plain,⁴³³⁴ and surely^{518 3808} we shall be stronger²³⁸⁸ than⁴⁴⁸⁰ they. And he hearkened⁸⁰⁸⁵ unto their voice,⁶⁹⁶³ and did⁶²¹³ so.³⁶⁵¹

26  And it came to pass¹⁹⁶¹ at the return⁸⁶⁶⁶ of the year,⁸¹⁴¹ that Ben-hadad¹¹³⁰ numbered^{6485 853} the Syrians,⁷⁵⁸ and went up⁵⁹²⁷ to Aphek,⁶⁶³ to fight⁴⁴²¹ against⁵⁹⁷³ Israel.³⁴⁷⁸

27  And the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ were numbered,⁶⁴⁸⁵ and were all present,³⁵⁵⁷ and went¹⁹⁸⁰ against⁷¹²¹ them: and the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ pitched²⁵⁸³ before⁵⁰⁴⁸ them like two⁸¹⁴⁷ little flocks²⁸³⁵ of kids;⁵⁷⁹⁵ but the Syrians⁷⁵⁸ filled^{4390 853} the country.⁷⁷⁶

28  And there came⁵⁰⁶⁶ a man³⁷⁶ of God,⁴³⁰ and spoke⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Thus³⁵⁴¹ saith⁵⁵⁹ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ Because^{3282 834} the Syrians⁷⁵⁸ have said,⁵⁵⁹ The LORD³⁰⁶⁸ is God⁴³⁰ of the hills,²⁰²² but he¹⁹³¹ is not³⁸⁰⁸ God⁴³⁰ of the valleys,⁶⁰¹⁰ therefore will I deliver^{5414 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ this²⁰⁸⁸ great¹⁴¹⁹ multitude¹⁹⁹⁵ into thine hand,³⁰²⁷ and ye shall know³⁰⁴⁵ that³⁵⁸⁸ I⁵⁸⁹ am the LORD.³⁰⁶⁸

29  And they pitched²⁵⁸³ one⁴²⁸ over against⁵²²⁷ the other⁴²⁸ seven⁷⁶⁵¹ days.³¹¹⁷ And so it was,¹⁹⁶¹ that in the seventh⁷⁶³⁷ day³¹¹⁷ the battle⁴⁴²¹ was joined:⁷¹²⁶ and the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ slew⁵²²¹ of ⁸⁵³ the Syrians⁷⁵⁸ a hundred³⁹⁶⁷ thousand⁵⁰⁵ footmen⁷²⁷³ in one²⁵⁹ day.³¹¹⁷

30  But the rest³⁴⁹⁸ fled⁵¹²⁷ to Aphek,⁶⁶³ into⁴¹³ the city;⁵⁸⁹² and there a wall²³⁴⁶ fell⁵³⁰⁷ upon⁵⁹²¹ twenty⁶²⁴² and seven⁷⁶⁵¹ thousand⁵⁰⁵ of the men³⁷⁶ that were left.³⁴⁹⁸ And Ben-hadad¹¹³⁰ fled,⁵¹²⁷ and came⁹³⁵ into⁴¹³ the city,⁵⁸⁹² into an inner chamber.^{2315 2315}

31  And his servants⁵⁶⁵⁰ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Behold²⁰⁰⁹ now,⁴⁹⁹⁴ we have heard⁸⁰⁸⁵ that³⁵⁸⁸ the kings⁴⁴²⁸ of the house¹⁰⁰⁴ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ are merciful²⁶¹⁷ kings:⁴⁴²⁸ let us, I pray thee,⁴⁹⁹⁴ put⁷⁷⁶⁰ sackcloth⁸²⁴² on our loins,⁴⁹⁷⁵ and ropes²²⁵⁶ upon our heads,⁷²¹⁸ and go out³³¹⁸ to⁴¹³ the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel:³⁴⁷⁸ peradventure¹⁹⁴ he will save^{2421 853} thy life.⁵³¹⁵

32  So they girded²²⁹⁶ sackcloth⁸²⁴² on their loins,⁴⁹⁷⁵ and put ropes²²⁵⁶ on their heads,⁷²¹⁸ and came⁹³⁵ to⁴¹³ the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Thy servant⁵⁶⁵⁰ Ben-hadad¹¹³⁰ saith,⁵⁵⁹ I pray thee,⁴⁹⁹⁴ let me⁵³¹⁵ live.²⁴²¹ And he said,⁵⁵⁹ Is he yet⁵⁷⁵⁰ alive?²⁴¹⁶ he¹⁹³¹ is my brother.²⁵¹

33  Now the men³⁷⁶ did diligently observe⁵¹⁷² whether any thing would come from⁴⁴⁸⁰ him, and did hastily⁴¹¹⁶ catch²⁴⁸⁰ it: and they said,⁵⁵⁹ Thy brother²⁵¹ Ben-hadad.¹¹³⁰ Then he said,⁵⁵⁹ Go⁹³⁵ ye, bring³⁹⁴⁷ him. Then Ben-hadad¹¹³⁰ came forth³³¹⁸ to⁴¹³ him; and he caused him to come up⁵⁹²⁷ into⁵⁹²¹ the chariot.⁴⁸¹⁸

34  And Ben-hadad said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, The cities,⁵⁸⁹² which⁸³⁴ my father¹ took³⁹⁴⁷ from^{4480 854} thy father,¹ I will restore;⁷⁷²⁵ and thou shalt make⁷⁷⁶⁰ streets²³⁵¹ for thee in Damascus,¹⁸³⁴ as⁸³⁴ my father¹ made⁷⁷⁶⁰ in Samaria.⁸¹¹¹ Then said Ahab, I⁵⁸⁹ will send thee away⁷⁹⁷¹ with this covenant.¹²⁸⁵ So he made³⁷⁷² a covenant¹²⁸⁵ with him, and sent him away.⁷⁹⁷¹

35  And a certain²⁵⁹ man³⁷⁶ of the sons^{4480 1121} of the prophets⁵⁰³⁰ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ his neighbor⁷⁴⁵³ in the word¹⁶⁹⁷ of the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ Smite⁵²²¹ me, I pray thee.⁴⁹⁹⁴ And the man³⁷⁶ refused³⁹⁸⁵ to smite⁵²²¹ him.

36  Then said⁵⁵⁹ he unto him, Because^{3282 834} thou hast not³⁸⁰⁸ obeyed⁸⁰⁸⁵ the voice⁶⁹⁶³ of the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ behold,²⁰⁰⁹ as soon as thou art departed¹⁹⁸⁰ from^{4480 853} me, a lion⁷³⁸ shall slay⁵²²¹ thee. And as soon as he was departed¹⁹⁸⁰ from^{4480 681} him, a lion⁷³⁸ found⁴⁶⁷² him, and slew⁵²²¹ him.

37  Then he found⁴⁶⁷² another³¹² man,³⁷⁶ and said,⁵⁵⁹ Smite⁵²²¹ me, I pray thee.⁴⁹⁹⁴ And the man³⁷⁶ smote⁵²²¹ him, so that in smiting⁵²²¹ he wounded⁶⁴⁸¹ him.

38  So the prophet⁵⁰³⁰ departed,¹⁹⁸⁰ and waited⁵⁹⁷⁵ for the king⁴⁴²⁸ by⁵⁹²¹ the way,¹⁸⁷⁰ and disguised himself²⁶⁶⁴ with ashes⁶⁶⁶ upon⁵⁹²¹ his face.⁵⁸⁶⁹

39  And as¹⁹⁶¹ the king⁴⁴²⁸ passed by,⁵⁶⁷⁴ he¹⁹³¹ cried⁶⁸¹⁷ unto⁴¹³ the king:⁴⁴²⁸ and he said,⁵⁵⁹ Thy servant⁵⁶⁵⁰ went out³³¹⁸ into the midst⁷¹³⁰ of the battle;⁴⁴²¹ and, behold,²⁰⁰⁹ a man³⁷⁶ turned aside,⁵⁴⁹³ and brought⁹³⁵ a man³⁷⁶ unto⁴¹³ me, and said,⁵⁵⁹ Keep^{8104 853} this²⁰⁸⁸ man:³⁷⁶ if⁵¹⁸ by any means he be missing,^{6485 6485} then shall thy life⁵³¹⁵ be¹⁹⁶¹ for⁸⁴⁷⁸ his life,⁵³¹⁵ or¹⁷⁶ else thou shalt pay⁸²⁵⁴ a talent³⁶⁰³ of silver.³⁷⁰¹

40  And as thy servant⁵⁶⁵⁰ was¹⁹⁶¹ busy⁶²¹³ here²⁰⁰⁸ and there,²⁰⁰⁸ he¹⁹³¹ was gone.³⁶⁹ And the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, So³⁶⁵¹ shall thy judgment⁴⁹⁴¹ be; thyself⁸⁵⁹ hast decided²⁷⁸² it.

41  And he hasted,⁴¹¹⁶ and took^{5493 853} the ashes⁶⁶⁶ away from^{4480 5921} his face;⁵⁸⁶⁹ and the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ discerned⁵²³⁴ him that³⁵⁸⁸ he¹⁹³¹ was of the prophets.^{4480 5030}

42  And he said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Thus³⁵⁴¹ saith⁵⁵⁹ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ Because³²⁸² thou hast let go⁷⁹⁷¹ out of thy hand^{4480 3027 853} a man³⁷⁶ whom I appointed to utter destruction,²⁷⁶⁴ therefore thy life⁵³¹⁵ shall go¹⁹⁶¹ for⁸⁴⁷⁸ his life,⁵³¹⁵ and thy people⁵⁹⁷¹ for⁸⁴⁷⁸ his people.⁵⁹⁷¹

43  And the king⁴⁴²⁸ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ went¹⁹⁸⁰ to⁵⁹²¹ his house¹⁰⁰⁴ heavy⁵⁶²⁰ and displeased,²¹⁹⁸ and came⁹³⁵ to Samaria.⁸¹¹¹

1 καὶ ἀμπελὼν εἷς ἦν τῷ Ναβουθαι τῷ Ιεζραηλίτῃ παρὰ τῷ ἅλῳ Αχααβ βασιλέως Σαμαρείας

2 καὶ ἐλάλησεν Αχααβ πρὸς Ναβουθαι λέγων δός μοι τὸν ἀμπελῶνά σου καὶ ἔσται μοι εἰς κῆπον λαχάνων ὅτι ἐγγίων οὗτος τῷ οἴκῳ μου καὶ δώσω σοι ἀμπελῶνα ἄλλον ἀγαθὸν ὑπὲρ αὐτόν εἰ δὲ ἀρέσκει ἐνώπιόν σου δώσω σοι ἀργύριον ἀντάλλαγμα τοῦ ἀμπελῶνός σου τούτου καὶ ἔσται μοι εἰς κῆπον λαχάνων

3 καὶ εἶπεν Ναβουθαι πρὸς Αχααβ μή μοι γένοιτο παρὰ θεοῦ μου δοῦναι κληρονομίαν πατέρων μου σοί

4 καὶ ἐγένετο τὸ πνεῦμα Αχααβ τεταραγμένον καὶ ἐκοιμήθη ἐπὶ τῆς κλίνης αὐτοῦ καὶ συνεκάλυψεν τὸ πρώσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐκ ἔφαγεν ἄρτον

5 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν Ιεζαβελ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ ἐλάλησεν πρὸς αὐτόν τί τὸ πνεῦμά σου τεταραγμένον καὶ οὐκ εἶ σὺ ἐσθίων ἄρτον

6 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτήν ὅτι ἐλάλησα πρὸς Ναβουθαι τὸν Ιεζραηλίτην λέγων δός μοι τὸν ἀμπελῶνά σου ἀργυρίου εἰ δὲ βούλει δώσω σοι ἀμπελῶνα ἄλλον ἀντ᾽ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν οὐ δώσω σοι κληρονομίαν πατέρων μου

7 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Ιεζαβελ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ σὺ νῦν οὕτως ποιεῖς βασιλέα ἐπὶ Ισραηλ ἀνάστηθι φάγε ἄρτον καὶ σαυτοῦ γενοῦ ἐγὼ δώσω σοι τὸν ἀμπελῶνα Ναβουθαι τοῦ Ιεζραηλίτου

8 καὶ ἔγραψεν βιβλίον ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Αχααβ καὶ ἐσφραγίσατο τῇ σφραγῖδι αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸ βιβλίον πρὸς τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους καὶ τοὺς ἐλευθέρους τοὺς κατοικοῦντας μετὰ Ναβουθαι

9 καὶ ἐγέγραπτο ἐν τοῖς βιβλίοις λέγων νηστεύσατε νηστείαν καὶ καθίσατε τὸν Ναβουθαι ἐν ἀρχῇ τοῦ λαοῦ

10 καὶ ἐγκαθίσατε δύο ἄνδρας υἱοὺς παρανόμων ἐξ ἐναντίας αὐτοῦ καὶ καταμαρτυρησάτωσαν αὐτοῦ λέγοντες ηὐλόγησεν θεὸν καὶ βασιλέα καὶ ἐξαγαγέτωσαν αὐτὸν καὶ λιθοβολησάτωσαν αὐτόν καὶ ἀποθανέτω

11 καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως αὐτοῦ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι καὶ οἱ ἐλεύθεροι οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν τῇ πόλει αὐτοῦ καθὰ ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς Ιεζαβελ καθὰ γέγραπται ἐν τοῖς βιβλίοις οἷς ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς αὐτούς

12 ἐκάλεσαν νηστείαν καὶ ἐκάθισαν τὸν Ναβουθαι ἐν ἀρχῇ τοῦ λαοῦ

13 καὶ ἦλθον δύο ἄνδρες υἱοὶ παρανόμων καὶ ἐκάθισαν ἐξ ἐναντίας αὐτοῦ καὶ κατεμαρτύρησαν αὐτοῦ λέγοντες ηὐλόγηκας θεὸν καὶ βασιλέα καὶ ἐξήγαγον αὐτὸν ἔξω τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἐλιθοβόλησαν αὐτὸν λίθοις καὶ ἀπέθανεν

14 καὶ ἀπέστειλαν πρὸς Ιεζαβελ λέγοντες λελιθοβόληται Ναβουθαι καὶ τέθνηκεν

15 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσεν Ιεζαβελ καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς Αχααβ ἀνάστα κληρονόμει τὸν ἀμπελῶνα Ναβουθαι τοῦ Ιεζραηλίτου ὃς οὐκ ἔδωκέν σοι ἀργυρίου ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν Ναβουθαι ζῶν ὅτι τέθνηκεν

16 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσεν Αχααβ ὅτι τέθνηκεν Ναβουθαι ὁ Ιεζραηλίτης καὶ διέρρηξεν τὰ ἱμάτια ἑαυτοῦ καὶ περιεβάλετο σάκκον καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ ταῦτα καὶ ἀνέστη καὶ κατέβη Αχααβ εἰς τὸν ἀμπελῶνα Ναβουθαι τοῦ Ιεζραηλίτου κληρονομῆσαι αὐτόν

17 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Ηλιου τὸν Θεσβίτην λέγων

18 ἀνάστηθι καὶ κατάβηθι εἰς ἀπαντὴν Αχααβ βασιλέως Ισραηλ τοῦ ἐν Σαμαρείᾳ ἰδοὺ οὗτος ἐν ἀμπελῶνι Ναβουθαι ὅτι καταβέβηκεν ἐκεῖ κληρονομῆσαι αὐτόν

19 καὶ λαλήσεις πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγων τάδε λέγει κύριος ὡς σὺ ἐφόνευσας καὶ ἐκληρονόμησας διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ᾧ ἔλειξαν αἱ ὕες καὶ οἱ κύνες τὸ αἷμα Ναβουθαι ἐκεῖ λείξουσιν οἱ κύνες τὸ αἷμά σου καὶ αἱ πόρναι λούσονται ἐν τῷ αἵματί σου

20 καὶ εἶπεν Αχααβ πρὸς Ηλιου εἰ εὕρηκάς με ὁ ἐχθρός μου καὶ εἶπεν εὕρηκα διότι μάτην πέπρασαι ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον κυρίου παροργίσαι αὐτόν

21 τάδε λέγει κύριος ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐπάγω ἐπὶ σὲ κακὰ καὶ ἐκκαύσω ὀπίσω σου καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσω τοῦ Αχααβ οὐροῦντα πρὸς τοῖχον καὶ συνεχόμενον καὶ ἐγκαταλελειμμένον ἐν Ισραηλ

22 καὶ δώσω τὸν οἶκόν σου ὡς τὸν οἶκον Ιεροβοαμ υἱοῦ Ναβατ καὶ ὡς τὸν οἶκον Βαασα υἱοῦ Αχια περὶ τῶν παροργισμάτων ὧν παρώργισας καὶ ἐξήμαρτες τὸν Ισραηλ

23 καὶ τῇ Ιεζαβελ ἐλάλησεν κύριος λέγων οἱ κύνες καταφάγονται αὐτὴν ἐν τῷ προτειχίσματι Ιεζραελ

24 τὸν τεθνηκότα τοῦ Αχααβ ἐν τῇ πόλει φάγονται οἱ κύνες καὶ τὸν τεθνηκότα αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ φάγονται τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ

25 πλὴν ματαίως Αχααβ ὡς ἐπράθη ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον κυρίου ὡς μετέθηκεν αὐτὸν Ιεζαβελ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ

26 καὶ ἐβδελύχθη σφόδρα πορεύεσθαι ὀπίσω τῶν βδελυγμάτων κατὰ πάντα ἃ ἐποίησεν ὁ Αμορραῖος ὃν ἐξωλέθρευσεν κύριος ἀπὸ προσώπου υἱῶν Ισραηλ

27 καὶ ὑπὲρ τοῦ λόγου ὡς κατενύγη Αχααβ ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ κυρίου καὶ ἐπορεύετο κλαίων καὶ διέρρηξεν τὸν χιτῶνα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐζώσατο σάκκον ἐπὶ τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐνήστευσεν καὶ περιεβάλετο σάκκον ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ᾗ ἐπάταξεν Ναβουθαι τὸν Ιεζραηλίτην

28 καὶ ἐγένετο ῥῆμα κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ δούλου αὐτοῦ Ηλιου περὶ Αχααβ καὶ εἶπεν κύριος

29 ἑώρακας ὡς κατενύγη Αχααβ ἀπὸ προσώπου μου οὐκ ἐπάξω τὴν κακίαν ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις αὐτοῦ ἀλλ᾽ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ ἐπάξω τὴν κακίαν

‎1 ‏וּבֶן־הֲדַ֣ד מֶֽלֶךְ־אֲרָ֗ם קָבַץ֙ אֶת־כָּל־חֵיל֔וֹ וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים וּשְׁנַ֥יִם מֶ֛לֶךְ אִתּ֖וֹ וְס֣וּס וָרָ֑כֶב וַיַּ֗עַל וַיָּ֙צַר֙ עַל־שֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן וַיִּלָּ֖חֶם בָּֽהּ׃

‎2 ‏וַיִּשְׁלַ֧ח מַלְאָכִ֛ים אֶל־אַחְאָ֥ב מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הָעִֽירָה׃

‎3 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר בֶּן־הֲדַ֔ד כַּסְפְּךָ֥ וּֽזְהָבְךָ֖ לִֽי־ה֑וּא וְנָשֶׁ֧יךָ וּבָנֶ֛יךָ הַטּוֹבִ֖ים לִי־הֵֽם׃

‎4 ‏וַיַּ֤עַן מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וַיֹּ֔אמֶר כִּדְבָרְךָ֖ אֲדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ לְךָ֥ אֲנִ֖י וְכָל־אֲשֶׁר־לִֽי׃

‎5 ‏וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ הַמַּלְאָכִ֔ים וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ כֹּֽה־אָמַ֥ר בֶּן־הֲדַ֖ד לֵאמֹ֑ר כִּֽי־שָׁלַ֤חְתִּי אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר כַּסְפְּךָ֧ וּזְהָבְךָ֛ וְנָשֶׁ֧יךָ וּבָנֶ֖יךָ לִ֥י תִתֵּֽן׃

‎6 ‏כִּ֣י׀ אִם־כָּעֵ֣ת מָחָ֗ר אֶשְׁלַ֤ח אֶת־עֲבָדַי֙ אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְחִפְּשׂוּ֙ אֶת־בֵּ֣יתְךָ֔ וְאֵ֖ת בָּתֵּ֣י עֲבָדֶ֑יךָ וְהָיָה֙ כָּל־מַחְמַ֣ד עֵינֶ֔יךָ יָשִׂ֥ימוּ בְיָדָ֖ם וְלָקָֽחוּ׃

‎7 ‏וַיִּקְרָ֤א מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לְכָל־זִקְנֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ דְּעֽוּ־נָ֣א וּרְא֔וּ כִּ֥י רָעָ֖ה זֶ֣ה מְבַקֵּ֑שׁ כִּֽי־שָׁלַ֨ח אֵלַ֜י לְנָשַׁ֤י וּלְבָנַי֙ וּלְכַסְפִּ֣י וְלִזְהָבִ֔י וְלֹ֥א מָנַ֖עְתִּי מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

‎8 ‏וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ אֵלָ֛יו כָּל־הַזְּקֵנִ֖ים וְכָל־הָעָ֑ם אַל־תִּשְׁמַ֖ע וְל֥וֹא תֹאבֶֽה׃

‎9 ‏וַיֹּ֜אמֶר לְמַלְאֲכֵ֣י בֶן־הֲדַ֗ד אִמְר֞וּ לַֽאדֹנִ֤י הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ כֹּל֩ אֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַ֨חְתָּ אֶל־עַבְדְּךָ֤ בָרִֽאשֹׁנָה֙ אֶעֱשֶׂ֔ה וְהַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה לֹ֥א אוּכַ֖ל לַעֲשׂ֑וֹת וַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙ הַמַּלְאָכִ֔ים וַיְשִׁבֻ֖הוּ דָּבָֽר׃

‎10 ‏וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח אֵלָיו֙ בֶּן־הֲדַ֔ד וַיֹּ֕אמֶר כֹּֽה־יַעֲשׂ֥וּן לִ֛י אֱלֹהִ֖ים וְכֹ֣ה יוֹסִ֑פוּ אִם־יִשְׂפֹּק֙ עֲפַ֣ר שֹׁמְר֔וֹן לִשְׁעָלִ֕ים לְכָל־הָעָ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּרַגְלָֽי׃

‎11 ‏וַיַּ֤עַן מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דַּבְּר֔וּ אַל־יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל חֹגֵ֖ר כִּמְפַתֵּֽחַ׃

‎12 ‏וַיְהִ֗י כִּשְׁמֹ֙עַ֙ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה וְה֥וּא שֹׁתֶ֛ה ה֥וּא וְהַמְּלָכִ֖ים בַּסֻּכּ֑וֹת וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֶל־עֲבָדָיו֙ שִׂ֔ימוּ וַיָּשִׂ֖ימוּ עַל־הָעִֽיר׃

‎13 ‏וְהִנֵּ֣ה׀ נָבִ֣יא אֶחָ֗ד נִגַּשׁ֮ אֶל־אַחְאָ֣ב מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הְֽרָאִ֔יתָ אֵ֛ת כָּל־הֶהָמ֥וֹן הַגָּד֖וֹל הַזֶּ֑ה הִנְנִ֨י נֹתְנ֤וֹ בְיָֽדְךָ֙ הַיּ֔וֹם וְיָדַעְתָּ֖ כִּֽי־אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

‎14 ‏וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אַחְאָב֙ בְּמִ֔י וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה בְּנַעֲרֵ֖י שָׂרֵ֣י הַמְּדִינ֑וֹת וַיֹּ֛אמֶר מִֽי־יֶאְסֹ֥ר הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אָֽתָּה׃

‎15 ‏וַיִּפְקֹ֗ד אֶֽת־נַעֲרֵי֙ שָׂרֵ֣י הַמְּדִינ֔וֹת וַיִּהְי֕וּ מָאתַ֖יִם שְׁנַ֣יִם וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֑ים וְאַחֲרֵיהֶ֗ם פָּקַ֧ד אֶת־כָּל־הָעָ֛ם כָּל־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שִׁבְעַ֥ת אֲלָפִֽים׃

‎16 ‏וַיֵּצְא֖וּ בַּֽצָּהֳרָ֑יִם וּבֶן־הֲדַד֩ שֹׁתֶ֨ה שִׁכּ֜וֹר בַּסֻּכּ֗וֹת ה֧וּא וְהַמְּלָכִ֛ים שְׁלֹשִֽׁים־וּשְׁנַ֥יִם מֶ֖לֶךְ עֹזֵ֥ר אֹתֽוֹ׃

‎17 ‏וַיֵּצְא֗וּ נַעֲרֵ֛י שָׂרֵ֥י הַמְּדִינ֖וֹת בָּרִֽאשֹׁנָ֑ה וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח בֶּן־הֲדַ֗ד וַיַּגִּ֤ידוּ לוֹ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אֲנָשִׁ֕ים יָצְא֖וּ מִשֹּׁמְרֽוֹן׃

‎18 ‏וַיֹּ֛אמֶר אִם־לְשָׁל֥וֹם יָצָ֖אוּ תִּפְשׂ֣וּם חַיִּ֑ים וְאִ֧ם לְמִלְחָמָ֛ה יָצָ֖אוּ חַיִּ֥ים תִּפְשֽׂוּם׃

‎19 ‏וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ יָצְא֣וּ מִן־הָעִ֔יר נַעֲרֵ֖י שָׂרֵ֣י הַמְּדִינ֑וֹת וְהַחַ֖יִל אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃

‎20 ‏וַיַּכּוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ אִישׁ֔וֹ וַיָּנֻ֣סוּ אֲרָ֔ם וַֽיִּרְדְּפֵ֖ם יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּמָּלֵ֗ט בֶּן־הֲדַד֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֔ם עַל־ס֖וּס וּפָרָשִֽׁים׃

‎21 ‏וַיֵּצֵא֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיַּ֥ךְ אֶת־הַסּ֖וּס וְאֶת־הָרָ֑כֶב וְהִכָּ֥ה בַאֲרָ֖ם מַכָּ֥ה גְדוֹלָֽה׃

‎22 ‏וַיִּגַּ֤שׁ הַנָּבִיא֙ אֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ לֵ֣ךְ הִתְחַזַּ֔ק וְדַ֥ע וּרְאֵ֖ה אֵ֣ת אֲשֶֽׁר־תַּעֲשֶׂ֑ה כִּ֚י לִתְשׁוּבַ֣ת הַשָּׁנָ֔ה מֶ֥לֶךְ אֲרָ֖ם עֹלֶ֥ה עָלֶֽיךָ׃ ס

‎23 ‏וְעַבְדֵ֨י מֶֽלֶךְ־אֲרָ֜ם אָמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֗יו אֱלֹהֵ֤י הָרִים֙ אֱלֹ֣הֵיהֶ֔ם עַל־כֵּ֖ן חָזְק֣וּ מִמֶּ֑נּוּ וְאוּלָ֗ם נִלָּחֵ֤ם אִתָּם֙ בַּמִּישׁ֔וֹר אִם־לֹ֥א נֶחֱזַ֖ק מֵהֶֽם׃

‎24 ‏וְאֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה עֲשֵׂ֑ה הָסֵ֤ר הַמְּלָכִים֙ אִ֣ישׁ מִמְּקֹמ֔וֹ וְשִׂ֥ים פַּח֖וֹת תַּחְתֵּיהֶֽם׃

‎25 ‏וְאַתָּ֣ה תִֽמְנֶה־לְךָ֣׀ חַ֡יִל כַּחַיִל֩ הַנֹּפֵ֨ל מֵאוֹתָ֜ךְ וְס֣וּס כַּסּ֣וּס׀ וְרֶ֣כֶב כָּרֶ֗כֶב וְנִֽלָּחֲמָ֤ה אוֹתָם֙ בַּמִּישׁ֔וֹר אִם־לֹ֥א נֶחֱזַ֖ק מֵהֶ֑ם וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע לְקֹלָ֖ם וַיַּ֥עַשׂ כֵּֽן׃ פ

‎26 ‏וַֽיְהִי֙ לִתְשׁוּבַ֣ת הַשָּׁנָ֔ה וַיִּפְקֹ֥ד בֶּן־הֲדַ֖ד אֶת־אֲרָ֑ם וַיַּ֣עַל אֲפֵ֔קָה לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה עִם־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

‎27 ‏וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הָתְפָּקְדוּ֙ וְכָלְכְּל֔וּ וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ לִקְרָאתָ֑ם וַיַּחֲנ֨וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל נֶגְדָּ֗ם כִּשְׁנֵי֙ חֲשִׂפֵ֣י עִזִּ֔ים וַאֲרָ֖ם מִלְא֥וּ אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

‎28 ‏וַיִּגַּ֞שׁ אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים וַיֹּאמֶר֮ אֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַיֹּ֜אמֶר כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה יַ֠עַן אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמְר֤וּ אֲרָם֙ אֱלֹהֵ֤י הָרִים֙ יְהוָ֔ה וְלֹֽא־אֱלֹהֵ֥י עֲמָקִ֖ים ה֑וּא וְ֠נָתַתִּי אֶת־כָּל־הֶהָמ֨וֹן הַגָּ֤דוֹל הַזֶּה֙ בְּיָדֶ֔ךָ וִֽידַעְתֶּ֖ם כִּֽי־אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

‎29 ‏וַֽיַּחֲנ֧וּ אֵ֦לֶּה נֹ֥כַח אֵ֖לֶּה שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים וַיְהִ֣י׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י וַתִּקְרַב֙ הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וַיַּכּ֨וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֧ל אֶת־אֲרָ֛ם מֵאָה־אֶ֥לֶף רַגְלִ֖י בְּי֥וֹם אֶחָֽד׃

‎30 ‏וַיָּנֻ֨סוּ הַנּוֹתָרִ֥ים׀ אֲפֵקָה֮ אֶל־הָעִיר֒ וַתִּפֹּל֙ הַחוֹמָ֔ה עַל־עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְשִׁבְעָ֥ה אֶ֛לֶף אִ֖ישׁ הַנּוֹתָרִ֑ים וּבֶן־הֲדַ֣ד נָ֔ס וַיָּבֹ֥א אֶל־הָעִ֖יר חֶ֥דֶר בְּחָֽדֶר׃ ס

‎31 ‏וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָיו֮ עֲבָדָיו֒ הִנֵּֽה־נָ֣א שָׁמַ֔עְנוּ כִּ֗י מַלְכֵי֙ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּֽי־מַלְכֵ֥י חֶ֖סֶד הֵ֑ם נָשִׂ֣ימָה נָּא֩ שַׂקִּ֨ים בְּמָתְנֵ֜ינוּ וַחֲבָלִ֣ים בְּרֹאשֵׁ֗נוּ וְנֵצֵא֙ אֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אוּלַ֖י יְחַיֶּ֥ה אֶת־נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃

‎32 ‏וַיַּחְגְּרוּ֩ שַׂקִּ֨ים בְּמָתְנֵיהֶ֜ם וַחֲבָלִ֣ים בְּרָאשֵׁיהֶ֗ם וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ אֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ עַבְדְּךָ֧ בֶן־הֲדַ֛ד אָמַ֖ר תְּחִֽי־נָ֣א נַפְשִׁ֑י וַיֹּ֛אמֶר הַעוֹדֶ֥נּוּ חַ֖י אָחִ֥י הֽוּא׃

‎33 ‏וְהָאֲנָשִׁים֩ יְנַחֲשׁ֨וּ וַֽיְמַהֲר֜וּ וַיַּחְלְט֣וּ הֲמִמֶּ֗נּוּ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ אָחִ֣יךָ בֶן־הֲדַ֔ד וַיֹּ֖אמֶר בֹּ֣אוּ קָחֻ֑הוּ וַיֵּצֵ֤א אֵלָיו֙ בֶּן־הֲדַ֔ד וַֽיַּעֲלֵ֖הוּ עַל־הַמֶּרְכָּבָֽה׃

‎34 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֡יו הֶעָרִ֣ים אֲשֶׁר־לָֽקַח־אָבִי֩ מֵאֵ֨ת אָבִ֜יךָ אָשִׁ֗יב וְ֠חוּצוֹת תָּשִׂ֨ים לְךָ֤ בְדַמֶּ֙שֶׂק֙ כַּאֲשֶׁר־שָׂ֤ם אָבִי֙ בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן וַאֲנִ֖י בַּבְּרִ֣ית אֲשַׁלְּחֶ֑ךָּ וַיִּכְרָת־ל֥וֹ בְרִ֖ית וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵֽהוּ׃ ס

‎35 ‏וְאִ֨ישׁ אֶחָ֜ד מִבְּנֵ֣י הַנְּבִיאִ֗ים אָמַ֧ר אֶל־רֵעֵ֛הוּ בִּדְבַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה הַכֵּ֣ינִי נָ֑א וַיְמָאֵ֥ן הָאִ֖ישׁ לְהַכֹּתֽוֹ׃

‎36 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ יַ֚עַן אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־שָׁמַ֙עְתָּ֙ בְּק֣וֹל יְהוָ֔ה הִנְּךָ֤ הוֹלֵךְ֙ מֵֽאִתִּ֔י וְהִכְּךָ֖ הָאַרְיֵ֑ה וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ מֵֽאֶצְל֔וֹ וַיִּמְצָאֵ֥הוּ הָאַרְיֵ֖ה וַיַּכֵּֽהוּ׃

‎37 ‏וַיִּמְצָא֙ אִ֣ישׁ אַחֵ֔ר וַיֹּ֖אמֶר הַכֵּ֣ינִי נָ֑א וַיַּכֵּ֥הוּ הָאִ֖ישׁ הַכֵּ֥ה וּפָצֹֽעַ׃

‎38 ‏וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ הַנָּבִ֔יא וַיַּעֲמֹ֥ד לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ עַל־הַדָּ֑רֶךְ וַיִּתְחַפֵּ֥שׂ בָּאֲפֵ֖ר עַל־עֵינָֽיו׃

‎39 ‏וַיְהִ֤י הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ עֹבֵ֔ר וְה֖וּא צָעַ֣ק אֶל־הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּ֜אמֶר עַבְדְּךָ֣׀ יָצָ֣א בְקֶֽרֶב־הַמִּלְחָמָ֗ה וְהִנֵּֽה־אִ֨ישׁ סָ֜ר וַיָּבֵ֧א אֵלַ֣י אִ֗ישׁ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ שְׁמֹר֙ אֶת־הָאִ֣ישׁ הַזֶּ֔ה אִם־הִפָּקֵד֙ יִפָּקֵ֔ד וְהָיְתָ֤ה נַפְשְׁךָ֙ תַּ֣חַת נַפְשׁ֔וֹ א֥וֹ כִכַּר־כֶּ֖סֶף תִּשְׁקֽוֹל׃

‎40 ‏וַיְהִ֣י עַבְדְּךָ֗ עֹשֵׂ֥ה הֵ֛נָּה וָהֵ֖נָּה וְה֣וּא אֵינֶ֑נּוּ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֧יו מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל כֵּ֥ן מִשְׁפָּטֶ֖ךָ אַתָּ֥ה חָרָֽצְתָּ׃

‎41 ‏וַיְמַהֵ֕ר וַיָּ֙סַר֙ אֶת־הָ֣אֲפֵ֔ר מעל מֵעֲלֵ֖י עֵינָ֑יו וַיַּכֵּ֤ר אֹתוֹ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּ֥י מֵֽהַנְּבִאִ֖ים הֽוּא׃

‎42 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֗יו כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה יַ֛עַן שִׁלַּ֥חְתָּ אֶת־אִישׁ־חֶרְמִ֖י מִיָּ֑ד וְהָיְתָ֤ה נַפְשְׁךָ֙ תַּ֣חַת נַפְשׁ֔וֹ וְעַמְּךָ֖ תַּ֥חַת עַמּֽוֹ׃

‎43 ‏וַיֵּ֧לֶךְ מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל עַל־בֵּית֖וֹ סַ֣ר וְזָעֵ֑ף וַיָּבֹ֖א שֹׁמְרֽוֹנָה׃ פ

Vul

1 Porro Benadad rex Syriæ congregavit omnem exercitum suum, et triginta duos reges secum, et equos, et currus: et ascendens pugnabat contra Samariam, et obsidebat eam.

2 Mittensque nuntios ad Achab regem Israël in civitatem,

3 ait: Hæc dicit Benadad: Argentum tuum, et aurum tuum meum est: et uxores tuæ, et filii tui optimi, mei sunt.

4 Responditque rex Israël: Juxta verbum tuum, domine mi rex, tuus sum ego, et omnia mea.

5 Revertentesque nuntii, dixerunt: Hæc dicit Benadad, qui misit nos ad te: Argentum tuum, et aurum tuum, et uxores tuas, et filios tuos, dabis mihi.

6 Cras igitur hac eadem hora mittam servos meos ad te, et scrutabuntur domum tuam, et domum servorum tuorum: et omne quod eis placuerit, ponent in manibus suis, et auferent.

7 Vocavit autem rex Israël omnes seniores terræ, et ait: Animadvertite, et videte quoniam insidietur nobis: misit enim ad me pro uxoribus meis, et filiis, et pro argento et auro: et non abnui.

8 Dixeruntque omnes majores natu, et universus populus, ad eum: Non audias, neque acquiescas illi.

9 Respondit itaque nuntiis Benadad: Dicite domino meo regi: Omnia propter quæ misisti ad me servum tuum in initio, faciam: hanc autem rem facere non possum.

10 Reversique nuntii retulerunt ei. Qui remisit, et ait: Hæc faciant mihi dii, et hæc addant, si suffecerit pulvis Samariæ pugillis omnis populi qui sequitur me.

11 Et respondens rex Israël, ait: Dicite ei: Ne glorietur, accinctus æque ut discinctus.

12 Factum est autem cum audisset Benadad verbum istud, bibebat ipse et reges in umbraculis: et ait servis suis: Circumdate civitatem. Et circumdederunt eam.

13 Et ecce propheta unus accedens ad Achab regem Israël, ait ei: Hæc dicit Dominus: Certe vidisti omnem multitudinem hanc nimiam? ecce ego tradam eam in manu tua hodie, ut scias quia ego sum Dominus.

14 Et ait Achab: Per quem? Dixitque ei: Hæc dicit Dominus: Per pedissequos principum provinciarum. Et ait: Quis incipiet præliari? Et ille dixit: Tu.

15 Recensuit ergo pueros principum provinciarum, et reperit numerum ducentorum triginta duorum: et recensuit post eos populum, omnes filios Israël, septem millia.

16 Et egressi sunt meridie. Benadad autem bibebat temulentus in umbraculo suo, et reges triginta duo cum eo, qui ad auxilium ejus venerant.

17 Egressi sunt autem pueri principum provinciarum in prima fronte. Misit itaque Benadad: qui nuntiaverunt ei, dicentes: Viri egressi sunt de Samaria.

18 Et ille ait: Sive pro pace veniunt, apprehendite eos vivos: sive ut prælientur, vivos eos capite.

19 Egressi sunt ergo pueri principum provinciarum, ac reliquus exercitus sequebatur:

20 et percussit unusquisque virum qui contra se veniebat: fugeruntque Syri, et persecutus est eos Israël. Fugit quoque Benadad rex Syriæ in equo cum equitibus suis.

21 Necnon egressus rex Israël percussit equos et currus, et percussit Syriam plaga magna.

22 Accedens autem propheta ad regem Israël, dixit ei: Vade, et confortare, et scito, et vide quid facias: sequenti enim anno rex Syriæ ascendet contra te.

23 Servi vero regis Syriæ dixerunt ei: Dii montium sunt dii eorum, ideo superaverunt nos: sed melius est ut pugnemus contra eos in campestribus, et obtinebimus eos.

24 Tu ergo verbum hoc fac: amove reges singulos ab exercitu tuo, et pone principes pro eis:

25 et instaura numerum militum qui ceciderunt de tuis, et equos secundum equos pristinos, et currus secundum currus quos ante habuisti: et pugnabimus contra eos in campestribus, et videbis quod obtinebimus eos. Credidit consilio eorum, et fecit ita.

26 Igitur postquam annus transierat, recensuit Benadad Syros, et ascendit in Aphec ut pugnaret contra Israël.

27 Porro filii Israël recensiti sunt, et acceptis cibariis profecti ex adverso, castraque metati sunt contra eos, quasi duo parvi greges caprarum: Syri autem repleverunt terram.

28 (Et accedens unus vir Dei, dixit ad regem Israël: Hæc dicit Dominus: Quia dixerunt Syri: Deus montium est Dominus, et non est Deus vallium: dabo omnem multitudinem hanc grandem in manu tua, et scietis quia ego sum Dominus.)

29 Dirigebantque septem diebus ex adverso hi atque illi acies, septima autem die commissum est bellum: percusseruntque filii Israël de Syris centum millia peditum in die una.

30 Fugerunt autem qui remanserant in Aphec, in civitatem: et cecidit murus super viginti septem millia hominum qui remanserant. Porro Benadad fugiens ingressus est civitatem, in cubiculum quod erat intra cubiculum.

31 Dixeruntque ei servi sui: Ecce, audivimus quod reges domus Israël clementes sint: ponamus itaque saccos in lumbis nostris, et funiculos in capitibus nostris, et egrediamur ad regem Israël: forsitan salvabit animas nostras.

32 Accinxerunt saccis lumbos suos, et posuerunt funiculos in capitibus suis, veneruntque ad regem Israël, et dixerunt ei: Servus tuus Benadad dicit: Vivat, oro te, anima mea. Et ille ait: Si adhuc vivit, frater meus est.

33 Quod acceperunt viri pro omine: et festinantes rapuerunt verbum ex ore ejus, atque dixerunt: Frater tuus Benadad. Et dixit eis: Ite, et adducite eum ad me. Egressus est ergo ad eum Benadad, et levavit eum in currum suum.

34 Qui dixit ei: Civitates quas tulit pater meus a patre tuo, reddam: et plateas fac tibi in Damasco, sicut fecit pater meus in Samaria, et ego fœderatus recedam a te. Pepigit ergo fœdus, et dimisit eum.

35 Tunc vir quidam de filiis prophetarum dixit ad socium suum in sermone Domini: Percute me. At ille noluit percutere.

36 Cui ait: Quia noluisti audire vocem Domini, ecce recedes a me, et percutiet te leo. Cumque paululum recessisset ab eo, invenit eum leo, atque percussit.

37 Sed alterum inveniens virum, dixit ad eum: Percute me. Qui percussit eum, et vulneravit.

38 Abiit ergo propheta, et occurrit regi in via, et mutavit aspersione pulveris os et oculos suos.

39 Cumque rex transisset, clamavit ad regem, et ait: Servus tuus egressus est ad præliandum cominus: cumque fugisset vir unus, adduxit eum quidam ad me, et ait: Custodi virum istum: qui si lapsus fuerit, erit anima tua pro anima ejus, aut talentum argenti appendes.

40 Dum autem ego turbatus huc illucque me verterem, subito non comparuit. Et ait rex Israël ad eum: Hoc est judicium tuum, quod ipse decrevisti.

41 At ille statim abstersit pulverem de facie sua, et cognovit eum rex Israël, quod esset de prophetis.

42 Qui ait ad eum: Hæc dicit Dominus: Quia dimisisti virum dignum morte de manu tua, erit anima tua pro anima ejus, et populus tuus pro populo ejus.

43 Reversus est igitur rex Israël in domum suam, audire contemnens, et furibundus venit in Samariam.
