1  Then they told⁵⁰⁴⁶ David,¹⁷³² saying,⁵⁵⁹ Behold,²⁰⁰⁹ the Philistines⁶⁴³⁰ fight³⁸⁹⁸ against Keilah,⁷⁰⁸⁴ and they¹⁹⁹² rob^{8154 853} the threshingfloors.¹⁶³⁷

2  Therefore David¹⁷³² inquired⁷⁵⁹² of the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Shall I go¹⁹⁸⁰ and smite⁵²²¹ these⁴²⁸ Philistines?⁶⁴³⁰ And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ David,¹⁷³² Go,¹⁹⁸⁰ and smite⁵²²¹ the Philistines,⁶⁴³⁰ and save^{3467 853} Keilah.⁷⁰⁸⁴

3  And David's¹⁷³² men³⁷⁶ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Behold,²⁰⁰⁹ we⁵⁸⁷ be afraid³³⁷² here⁶³¹¹ in Judah:³⁰⁶³ how much⁶³⁷ more then if³⁵⁸⁸ we come¹⁹⁸⁰ to Keilah⁷⁰⁸⁴ against⁴¹³ the armies⁴⁶³⁴ of the Philistines?⁶⁴³⁰

4  Then David¹⁷³² inquired⁷⁵⁹² of the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ yet⁵⁷⁵⁰ again.³²⁵⁴ And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ answered⁶⁰³⁰ him and said,⁵⁵⁹ Arise,⁶⁹⁶⁵ go down³³⁸¹ to Keilah;⁷⁰⁸⁴ for³⁵⁸⁸ I⁵⁸⁹ will deliver^{5414 853} the Philistines⁶⁴³⁰ into thine hand.³⁰²⁷

5  So David¹⁷³² and his men³⁷⁶ went¹⁹⁸⁰ to Keilah,⁷⁰⁸⁴ and fought³⁸⁹⁸ with the Philistines,⁶⁴³⁰ and brought away^{5090 853} their cattle,⁴⁷³⁵ and smote⁵²²¹ them with a great¹⁴¹⁹ slaughter.⁴³⁴⁷ So David¹⁷³² saved^{3467 853} the inhabitants³⁴²⁷ of Keilah.⁷⁰⁸⁴

6  And it came to pass,¹⁹⁶¹ when Abiathar⁵⁴ the son¹¹²¹ of Ahimelech²⁸⁸ fled¹²⁷² to⁴¹³ David¹⁷³² to Keilah,⁷⁰⁸⁴ that he came down³³⁸¹ with an ephod⁶⁴⁶ in his hand.³⁰²⁷

7  And it was told⁵⁰⁴⁶ Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ that³⁵⁸⁸ David¹⁷³² was come⁹³⁵ to Keilah.⁷⁰⁸⁴ And Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ said,⁵⁵⁹ God⁴³⁰ hath delivered⁵²³⁴ him into mine hand;³⁰²⁷ for³⁵⁸⁸ he is shut in,⁵⁴⁶² by entering⁹³⁵ into a town⁵⁸⁹² that hath gates¹⁸¹⁷ and bars.¹²⁸⁰

8  And Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ called^{8085 853} all³⁶⁰⁵ the people⁵⁹⁷¹ together to war,⁴⁴²¹ to go down³³⁸¹ to Keilah,⁷⁰⁸⁴ to besiege^{6696 413} David¹⁷³² and his men.³⁷⁶

9  And David¹⁷³² knew³⁰⁴⁵ that³⁵⁸⁸ Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ secretly practiced²⁷⁹⁰ mischief⁷⁴⁵¹ against⁵⁹²¹ him; and he said⁵⁵⁹ to⁴¹³ Abiathar⁵⁴ the priest,³⁵⁴⁸ Bring hither⁵⁰⁶⁶ the ephod.⁶⁴⁶

10  Then said⁵⁵⁹ David,¹⁷³² O LORD³⁰⁶⁸ God⁴³⁰ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ thy servant⁵⁶⁵⁰ hath certainly heard^{8085 8085} that³⁵⁸⁸ Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ seeketh¹²⁴⁵ to come⁹³⁵ to⁴¹³ Keilah,⁷⁰⁸⁴ to destroy⁷⁸⁴³ the city⁵⁸⁹² for my sake.⁵⁶⁶⁸

11  Will the men¹¹⁶⁷ of Keilah⁷⁰⁸⁴ deliver me up⁵⁴⁶² into his hand?³⁰²⁷ will Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ come down,³³⁸¹ as⁸³⁴ thy servant⁵⁶⁵⁰ hath heard?⁸⁰⁸⁵ O LORD³⁰⁶⁸ God⁴³⁰ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ I beseech thee,⁴⁹⁹⁴ tell⁵⁰⁴⁶ thy servant.⁵⁶⁵⁰ And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said,⁵⁵⁹ He will come down.³³⁸¹

12  Then said⁵⁵⁹ David,¹⁷³² Will the men¹¹⁶⁷ of Keilah⁷⁰⁸⁴ deliver⁵⁴⁶² me and my men³⁷⁶ into the hand³⁰²⁷ of Saul?⁷⁵⁸⁶ And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said,⁵⁵⁹ They will deliver thee up.⁵⁴⁶²

13  Then David¹⁷³² and his men,³⁷⁶ which were about six⁸³³⁷ hundred,^{3967 376} arose⁶⁹⁶⁵ and departed³³¹⁸ out of Keilah,^{4480 7084} and went¹⁹⁸⁰ whithersoever⁸³⁴ they could go.¹⁹⁸⁰ And it was told⁵⁰⁴⁶ Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ that³⁵⁸⁸ David¹⁷³² was escaped⁴⁴²² from Keilah;^{4480 7084} and he forbore²³⁰⁸ to go forth.³³¹⁸

14  And David¹⁷³² abode³⁴²⁷ in the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ in strongholds,⁴⁶⁷⁹ and remained³⁴²⁷ in a mountain²⁰²² in the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ of Ziph.²¹²⁸ And Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ sought¹²⁴⁵ him every³⁶⁰⁵ day,³¹¹⁷ but God⁴³⁰ delivered⁵⁴¹⁴ him not³⁸⁰⁸ into his hand.³⁰²⁷

15  And David¹⁷³² saw⁷²⁰⁰ that³⁵⁸⁸ Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ was come out³³¹⁸ to seek^{1245 853} his life:⁵³¹⁵ and David¹⁷³² was in the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ of Ziph²¹²⁸ in a wood.²⁷⁹³

16  And Jonathan³⁰⁸³ Saul's⁷⁵⁸⁶ son¹¹²¹ arose,⁶⁹⁶⁵ and went¹⁹⁸⁰ to⁴¹³ David¹⁷³² into the wood,²⁷⁹³ and strengthened^{2388 853} his hand³⁰²⁷ in God.⁴³⁰

17  And he said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Fear³³⁷² not:⁴⁰⁸ for³⁵⁸⁸ the hand³⁰²⁷ of Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ my father¹ shall not³⁸⁰⁸ find⁴⁶⁷² thee; and thou⁸⁵⁹ shalt be king⁴⁴²⁷ over⁵⁹²¹ Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ and I⁵⁹⁵ shall be¹⁹⁶¹ next⁴⁹³² unto thee; and that³⁶⁵¹ also¹⁵⁷¹ Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ my father¹ knoweth.³⁰⁴⁵

18  And they two⁸¹⁴⁷ made³⁷⁷² a covenant¹²⁸⁵ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the LORD:³⁰⁶⁸ and David¹⁷³² abode³⁴²⁷ in the wood,²⁷⁹³ and Jonathan³⁰⁸³ went¹⁹⁸⁰ to his house.¹⁰⁰⁴

19  Then came up⁵⁹²⁷ the Ziphites²¹³⁰ to⁴¹³ Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ to Gibeah,¹³⁹⁰ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Doth not³⁸⁰⁸ David¹⁷³² hide himself⁵⁶⁴¹ with⁵⁹⁷³ us in strongholds⁴⁶⁷⁹ in the wood,²⁷⁹³ in the hill¹³⁸⁹ of Hachilah,²⁴⁴⁴ which⁸³⁴ is on the south^{4480 3225} of Jeshimon?³⁴⁵²

20  Now⁶²⁵⁸ therefore, O king,⁴⁴²⁸ come down³³⁸¹ according to all³⁶⁰⁵ the desire¹⁸⁵ of thy soul⁵³¹⁵ to come down;³³⁸¹ and our part shall be to deliver⁵⁴⁶² him into the king's⁴⁴²⁸ hand.³⁰²⁷

21  And Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ said,⁵⁵⁹ Blessed¹²⁸⁸ be ye⁸⁵⁹ of the LORD;³⁰⁶⁸ for³⁵⁸⁸ ye have compassion²⁵⁵⁰ on⁵⁹²¹ me.

22  Go,¹⁹⁸⁰ I pray you,⁴⁹⁹⁴ prepare³⁵⁵⁹ yet,⁵⁷⁵⁰ and know³⁰⁴⁵ and see^{7200 853} his place⁴⁷²⁵ where⁸³⁴ his haunt⁷²⁷² is,¹⁹⁶¹ and who⁴³¹⁰ hath seen⁷²⁰⁰ him there:⁸⁰³³ for³⁵⁸⁸ it is told^{559 413} me that he¹⁹³¹ dealeth very subtlely.^{6191 6191}

23  See⁷²⁰⁰ therefore, and take knowledge³⁰⁴⁵ of all^{4480 3605} the lurking places⁴²²⁴ where⁸³⁴ he hideth himself,²²⁴⁴ and come ye again⁷⁷²⁵ to⁴¹³ me with⁴¹³ the certainty,³⁵⁵⁹ and I will go¹⁹⁸⁰ with⁸⁵⁴ you: and it shall come to pass,¹⁹⁶¹ if⁵¹⁸ he be^{1961 3426} in the land,⁷⁷⁶ that I will search him out^{2664 853} throughout all³⁶⁰⁵ the thousands⁵⁰⁵ of Judah.³⁰⁶³

24  And they arose,⁶⁹⁶⁵ and went¹⁹⁸⁰ to Ziph²¹²⁸ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ Saul:⁷⁵⁸⁶ but David¹⁷³² and his men³⁷⁶ were in the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ of Maon,⁴⁵⁸⁴ in the plain⁶¹⁶⁰ on⁴¹³ the south³²²⁵ of Jeshimon.³⁴⁵²

25  Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ also and his men³⁷⁶ went¹⁹⁸⁰ to seek¹²⁴⁵ him. And they told⁵⁰⁴⁶ David:¹⁷³² wherefore he came down³³⁸¹ into a rock,⁵⁵⁵³ and abode³⁴²⁷ in the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ of Maon.⁴⁵⁸⁴ And when Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ heard⁸⁰⁸⁵ that, he pursued⁷²⁹¹ after³¹⁰ David¹⁷³² in the wilderness⁴⁰⁵⁷ of Maon.⁴⁵⁸⁴

26  And Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ went¹⁹⁸⁰ on this side^{4480 2088 4480 6654} of the mountain,²⁰²² and David¹⁷³² and his men³⁷⁶ on that side^{4480 2088 4480 6654} of the mountain:²⁰²² and David¹⁷³² made haste^{1961 2648} to get away¹⁹⁸⁰ for fear of^{4480 6440} Saul;⁷⁵⁸⁶ for Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ and his men³⁷⁶ compassed^{5849 413} David¹⁷³² and his men³⁷⁶ round about to take⁸⁶¹⁰ them.

27  But there came⁹³⁵ a messenger⁴³⁹⁷ unto⁴¹³ Saul,⁷⁵⁸⁶ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Haste⁴¹¹⁶ thee, and come;¹⁹⁸⁰ for³⁵⁸⁸ the Philistines⁶⁴³⁰ have invaded^{6584 5921} the land.⁷⁷⁶

28  Wherefore Saul⁷⁵⁸⁶ returned⁷⁷²⁵ from pursuing^{4480 7291} after³¹⁰ David,¹⁷³² and went¹⁹⁸⁰ against⁷¹²⁵ the Philistines:⁶⁴³⁰ therefore^{5921 3651} they called⁷¹²¹ that¹⁹³¹ place⁴⁷²⁵ Sela-hammahlekoth.^{5555 5553 4256}

29  And David¹⁷³² went up⁵⁹²⁷ from thence,^{4480 8033} and dwelt³⁴²⁷ in strongholds⁴⁶⁷⁹ at En-gedi.⁵⁸⁷²

1 καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τῷ Δαυιδ λέγοντες ἰδοὺ οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι πολεμοῦσιν ἐν τῇ Κεϊλα καὶ αὐτοὶ διαρπάζουσιν καταπατοῦσιν τοὺς ἅλω

2 καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν Δαυιδ διὰ τοῦ κυρίου λέγων εἰ πορευθῶ καὶ πατάξω τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους τούτους καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πορεύου καὶ πατάξεις ἐν τοῖς ἀλλοφύλοις τούτοις καὶ σώσεις τὴν Κεϊλα

3 καὶ εἶπαν οἱ ἄνδρες τοῦ Δαυιδ πρὸς αὐτόν ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἐνταῦθα ἐν τῇ Ιουδαίᾳ φοβούμεθα καὶ πῶς ἔσται ἐὰν πορευθῶμεν εἰς Κεϊλα εἰς τὰ σκῦλα τῶν ἀλλοφύλων εἰσπορευσόμεθα

4 καὶ προσέθετο Δαυιδ ἐρωτῆσαι ἔτι διὰ τοῦ κυρίου καὶ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ κύριος καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν ἀνάστηθι καὶ κατάβηθι εἰς Κεϊλα ὅτι ἐγὼ παραδίδωμι τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους εἰς χεῖράς σου

5 καὶ ἐπορεύθη Δαυιδ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ εἰς Κεϊλα καὶ ἐπολέμησεν ἐν τοῖς ἀλλοφύλοις καὶ ἔφυγον ἐκ προσώπου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπήγαγεν τὰ κτήνη αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπάταξεν ἐν αὐτοῖς πληγὴν μεγάλην καὶ ἔσωσεν Δαυιδ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Κεϊλα

6 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ φυγεῖν Αβιαθαρ υἱὸν Αβιμελεχ πρὸς Δαυιδ καὶ αὐτὸς μετὰ Δαυιδ εἰς Κεϊλα κατέβη ἔχων εφουδ ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ

7 καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τῷ Σαουλ ὅτι ἥκει Δαυιδ εἰς Κεϊλα καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ πέπρακεν αὐτὸν ὁ θεὸς εἰς χεῖράς μου ὅτι ἀποκέκλεισται εἰσελθὼν εἰς πόλιν θυρῶν καὶ μοχλῶν

8 καὶ παρήγγειλεν Σαουλ παντὶ τῷ λαῷ εἰς πόλεμον καταβαίνειν εἰς Κεϊλα συνέχειν τὸν Δαυιδ καὶ τοὺς ἄνδρας αὐτοῦ

9 καὶ ἔγνω Δαυιδ ὅτι οὐ παρασιωπᾷ Σαουλ περὶ αὐτοῦ τὴν κακίαν καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Αβιαθαρ τὸν ἱερέα προσάγαγε τὸ εφουδ κυρίου

10 καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ ἀκούων ἀκήκοεν ὁ δοῦλός σου ὅτι ζητεῖ Σαουλ ἐλθεῖν ἐπὶ Κεϊλα διαφθεῖραι τὴν πόλιν δι᾽ ἐμέ

11 εἰ ἀποκλεισθήσεται καὶ νῦν εἰ καταβήσεται Σαουλ καθὼς ἤκουσεν ὁ δοῦλός σου κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ ἀπάγγειλον τῷ δούλῳ σου καὶ εἶπεν κύριος ἀποκλεισθήσεται

13 καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυιδ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ὡς τετρακόσιοι καὶ ἐξῆλθον ἐκ Κεϊλα καὶ ἐπορεύοντο οὗ ἐὰν ἐπορεύθησαν καὶ τῷ Σαουλ ἀπηγγέλη ὅτι διασέσωται Δαυιδ ἐκ Κεϊλα καὶ ἀνῆκεν τοῦ ἐξελθεῖν

14 καὶ ἐκάθισεν Δαυιδ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἐν Μασερεμ ἐν τοῖς στενοῖς καὶ ἐκάθητο ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἐν τῷ ὄρει Ζιφ ἐν τῇ γῇ τῇ αὐχμώδει καὶ ἐζήτει αὐτὸν Σαουλ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας καὶ οὐ παρέδωκεν αὐτὸν κύριος εἰς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ

15 καὶ εἶδεν Δαυιδ ὅτι ἐξέρχεται Σαουλ τοῦ ζητεῖν τὸν Δαυιδ καὶ Δαυιδ ἐν τῷ ὄρει τῷ αὐχμώδει ἐν τῇ Καινῇ Ζιφ

16 καὶ ἀνέστη Ιωναθαν υἱὸς Σαουλ καὶ ἐπορεύθη πρὸς Δαυιδ εἰς Καινὴν καὶ ἐκραταίωσεν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ ἐν κυρίῳ

17 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν μὴ φοβοῦ ὅτι οὐ μὴ εὕρῃ σε ἡ χεὶρ Σαουλ τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ σὺ βασιλεύσεις ἐπὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐγὼ ἔσομαί σοι εἰς δεύτερον καὶ Σαουλ ὁ πατήρ μου οἶδεν οὕτως

18 καὶ διέθεντο ἀμφότεροι διαθήκην ἐνώπιον κυρίου καὶ ἐκάθητο Δαυιδ ἐν Καινῇ καὶ Ιωναθαν ἀπῆλθεν εἰς οἶκον αὐτοῦ

19 καὶ ἀνέβησαν οἱ Ζιφαῖοι ἐκ τῆς αὐχμώδους πρὸς Σαουλ ἐπὶ τὸν βουνὸν λέγοντες οὐκ ἰδοὺ Δαυιδ κέκρυπται παρ᾽ ἡμῖν ἐν Μεσσαρα ἐν τοῖς στενοῖς ἐν τῇ Καινῇ ἐν τῷ βουνῷ τοῦ Εχελα τοῦ ἐκ δεξιῶν τοῦ Ιεσσαιμουν

20 καὶ νῦν πᾶν τὸ πρὸς ψυχὴν τοῦ βασιλέως εἰς κατάβασιν καταβαινέτω πρὸς ἡμᾶς κεκλείκασιν αὐτὸν εἰς τὰς χεῖρας τοῦ βασιλέως

21 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Σαουλ εὐλογημένοι ὑμεῖς τῷ κυρίῳ ὅτι ἐπονέσατε περὶ ἐμοῦ

22 πορεύθητε δὴ καὶ ἑτοιμάσατε ἔτι καὶ γνῶτε τὸν τόπον αὐτοῦ οὗ ἔσται ὁ ποὺς αὐτοῦ ἐν τάχει ἐκεῖ οὗ εἴπατε μήποτε πανουργεύσηται

23 καὶ ἴδετε καὶ γνῶτε καὶ πορευσόμεθα μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν καὶ ἔσται εἰ ἔστιν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἐξερευνήσω αὐτὸν ἐν πάσαις χιλιάσιν Ιουδα

24 καὶ ἀνέστησαν οἱ Ζιφαῖοι καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν ἔμπροσθεν Σαουλ καὶ Δαυιδ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῇ Μααν καθ᾽ ἑσπέραν ἐκ δεξιῶν τοῦ Ιεσσαιμουν

25 καὶ ἐπορεύθη Σαουλ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ ζητεῖν αὐτόν καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν τῷ Δαυιδ καὶ κατέβη εἰς τὴν πέτραν τὴν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ Μααν καὶ ἤκουσεν Σαουλ καὶ κατεδίωξεν ὀπίσω Δαυιδ εἰς τὴν ἔρημον Μααν

26 καὶ πορεύονται Σαουλ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ ἐκ μέρους τοῦ ὄρους τούτου καὶ ἦν Δαυιδ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ ἐκ μέρους τοῦ ὄρους τούτου καὶ ἦν Δαυιδ σκεπαζόμενος πορεύεσθαι ἀπὸ προσώπου Σαουλ καὶ Σαουλ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ παρενέβαλον ἐπὶ Δαυιδ καὶ τοὺς ἄνδρας αὐτοῦ συλλαβεῖν αὐτούς

27 καὶ ἄγγελος πρὸς Σαουλ ἦλθεν λέγων σπεῦδε καὶ δεῦρο ὅτι ἐπέθεντο οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν

28 καὶ ἀνέστρεψεν Σαουλ μὴ καταδιώκειν ὀπίσω Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς συνάντησιν τῶν ἀλλοφύλων διὰ τοῦτο ἐπεκλήθη ὁ τόπος ἐκεῖνος Πέτρα ἡ μερισθεῖσα

‎1 ‏וַיַּגִּ֥דוּ לְדָוִ֖ד לֵאמֹ֑ר הִנֵּ֤ה פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ נִלְחָמִ֣ים בִּקְעִילָ֔ה וְהֵ֖מָּה שֹׁסִ֥ים אֶת־הַגֳּרָנֽוֹת׃

‎2 ‏וַיִּשְׁאַ֨ל דָּוִ֤ד בַּֽיהוָה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הַאֵלֵ֣ךְ וְהִכֵּ֔יתִי בַּפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה סוַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־דָּוִ֗ד לֵ֚ךְ וְהִכִּ֣יתָ בַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וְהוֹשַׁעְתָּ֖ אֶת־קְעִילָֽה׃

‎3 ‏וַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּ אַנְשֵׁ֤י דָוִד֙ אֵלָ֔יו הִנֵּ֨ה אֲנַ֥חְנוּ פֹ֛ה בִּֽיהוּדָ֖ה יְרֵאִ֑ים וְאַף֙ כִּֽי־נֵלֵ֣ךְ קְעִלָ֔ה אֶל־מַֽעַרְכ֖וֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ ס

‎4 ‏וַיּ֨וֹסֶף ע֤וֹד דָּוִד֙ לִשְׁאֹ֣ל בַּֽיהוָ֔ה סוַֽיַּעֲנֵ֖הוּ יְהוָ֑ה וַיֹּ֗אמֶר ק֚וּם רֵ֣ד קְעִילָ֔ה כִּֽי־אֲנִ֥י נֹתֵ֛ן אֶת־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים בְּיָדֶֽךָ׃

‎5 ‏וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִד֩ ואנשו וַאֲנָשָׁ֨יו קְעִילָ֜ה וַיִּלָּ֣חֶם בַּפְּלִשְׁתִּ֗ים וַיִּנְהַג֙ אֶת־מִקְנֵיהֶ֔ם וַיַּ֥ךְ בָּהֶ֖ם מַכָּ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֑ה וַיֹּ֣שַׁע דָּוִ֔ד אֵ֖ת יֹשְׁבֵ֥י קְעִילָֽה׃ ס

‎6 ‏וַיְהִ֗י בִּ֠בְרֹחַ אֶבְיָתָ֧ר בֶּן־אֲחִימֶ֛לֶךְ אֶל־דָּוִ֖ד קְעִילָ֑ה אֵפ֖וֹד יָרַ֥ד בְּיָדֽוֹ׃

‎7 ‏וַיֻּגַּ֣ד לְשָׁא֔וּל כִּי־בָ֥א דָוִ֖ד קְעִילָ֑ה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁא֗וּל נִכַּ֨ר אֹת֤וֹ אֱלֹהִים֙ בְּיָדִ֔י כִּ֚י נִסְגַּ֣ר לָב֔וֹא בְּעִ֖יר דְּלָתַ֥יִם וּבְרִֽיחַ׃

‎8 ‏וַיְשַׁמַּ֥ע שָׁא֛וּל אֶת־כָּל־הָעָ֖ם לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה לָרֶ֣דֶת קְעִילָ֔ה לָצ֥וּר אֶל־דָּוִ֖ד וְאֶל־אֲנָשָֽׁיו׃

‎9 ‏וַיֵּ֣דַע דָּוִ֔ד כִּ֣י עָלָ֔יו שָׁא֖וּל מַחֲרִ֣ישׁ הָרָעָ֑ה וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־אֶבְיָתָ֣ר הַכֹּהֵ֔ן הַגִּ֖ישָׁה הָאֵפֽוֹד׃ ס

‎10 ‏וַיֹּאמֶר֮ דָּוִד֒ יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שָׁמֹ֤עַ שָׁמַע֙ עַבְדְּךָ֔ כִּֽי־מְבַקֵּ֥שׁ שָׁא֖וּל לָב֣וֹא אֶל־קְעִילָ֑ה לְשַׁחֵ֥ת לָעִ֖יר בַּעֲבוּרִֽי׃

‎11 ‏הֲיַסְגִּרֻ֣נִי בַעֲלֵי֩ קְעִילָ֨ה בְיָד֜וֹ הֲיֵרֵ֣ד שָׁא֗וּל כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙ שָׁמַ֣ע עַבְדֶּ֔ךָ יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַגֶּד־נָ֖א לְעַבְדֶּ֑ךָ סוַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה יֵרֵֽד׃

‎12 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד הֲיַסְגִּ֜רוּ בַּעֲלֵ֧י קְעִילָ֛ה אֹתִ֥י וְאֶת־אֲנָשַׁ֖י בְּיַד־שָׁא֑וּל וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה יַסְגִּֽירוּ׃ ס

‎13 ‏וַיָּקָם֩ דָּוִ֨ד וַאֲנָשָׁ֜יו כְּשֵׁשׁ־מֵא֣וֹת אִ֗ישׁ וַיֵּצְאוּ֙ מִקְּעִלָ֔ה וַיִּֽתְהַלְּכ֖וּ בַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר יִתְהַלָּ֑כוּ וּלְשָׁא֣וּל הֻגַּ֗ד כִּֽי־נִמְלַ֤ט דָּוִד֙ מִקְּעִילָ֔ה וַיֶּחְדַּ֖ל לָצֵֽאת׃

‎14 ‏וַיֵּ֨שֶׁב דָּוִ֤ד בַּמִּדְבָּר֙ בַּמְּצָד֔וֹת וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב בָּהָ֖ר בְּמִדְבַּר־זִ֑יף וַיְבַקְשֵׁ֤הוּ שָׁאוּל֙ כָּל־הַיָּמִ֔ים וְלֹֽא־נְתָנ֥וֹ אֱלֹהִ֖ים בְּיָדֽוֹ׃

‎15 ‏וַיַּ֣רְא דָוִ֔ד¹ כִּֽי־יָצָ֥א שָׁא֖וּל לְבַקֵּ֣שׁ אֶת־נַפְשׁ֑וֹ וְדָוִ֥ד בְּמִדְבַּר־זִ֖יף בַּחֹֽרְשָׁה׃ ס

‎16 ‏וַיָּ֙קָם֙ יְהוֹנָתָ֣ן בֶּן־שָׁא֔וּל וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ אֶל־דָּוִ֖ד חֹ֑רְשָׁה וַיְחַזֵּ֥ק אֶת־יָד֖וֹ בֵּאלֹהִֽים׃

‎17 ‏וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֜יו אַל־תִּירָ֗א כִּ֠י לֹ֤א תִֽמְצָאֲךָ֙ יַ֚ד שָׁא֣וּל אָבִ֔י וְאַתָּה֙ תִּמְלֹ֣ךְ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאָנֹכִ֖י אֶֽהְיֶה־לְּךָ֣ לְמִשְׁנֶ֑ה וְגַם־שָׁא֥וּל אָבִ֖י יֹדֵ֥עַ כֵּֽן׃

‎18 ‏וַיִּכְרְת֧וּ שְׁנֵיהֶ֛ם בְּרִ֖ית לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב דָּוִד֙ בַּחֹ֔רְשָׁה וִיהוֹנָתָ֖ן הָלַ֥ךְ לְבֵיתֽוֹ׃ ס

‎19 ‏וַיַּעֲל֤וּ זִפִים֙ אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל הַגִּבְעָ֖תָה לֵאמֹ֑ר הֲל֣וֹא דָ֠וִד מִסְתַּתֵּ֨ר עִמָּ֤נוּ בַמְּצָדוֹת֙ בַּחֹ֔רְשָׁה בְּגִבְעַת֙ הַֽחֲכִילָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר מִימִ֥ין הַיְשִׁימֽוֹן׃

‎20 ‏וְ֠עַתָּה לְכָל־אַוַּ֨ת נַפְשְׁךָ֥ הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ לָרֶ֖דֶת רֵ֑ד וְלָ֥נוּ הַסְגִּיר֖וֹ בְּיַ֥ד הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

‎21 ‏וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁא֔וּל בְּרוּכִ֥ים אַתֶּ֖ם לַֽיהוָ֑ה כִּ֥י חֲמַלְתֶּ֖ם עָלָֽי׃

‎22 ‏לְכוּ־נָ֞א הָכִ֣ינוּ ע֗וֹד וּדְע֤וּ וּרְאוּ֙ אֶת־מְקוֹמוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּֽהְיֶ֣ה רַגְל֔וֹ מִ֥י רָאָ֖הוּ שָׁ֑ם כִּ֚י אָמַ֣ר אֵלַ֔י עָר֥וֹם יַעְרִ֖ם הֽוּא׃

‎23 ‏וּרְא֣וּ וּדְע֗וּ מִכֹּ֤ל הַמַּֽחֲבֹאִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִתְחַבֵּ֣א שָׁ֔ם וְשַׁבְתֶּ֤ם אֵלַי֙ אֶל־נָכ֔וֹן וְהָלַכְתִּ֖י אִתְּכֶ֑ם וְהָיָה֙ אִם־יֶשְׁנ֣וֹ בָאָ֔רֶץ וְחִפַּשְׂתִּ֣י אֹת֔וֹ בְּכֹ֖ל אַלְפֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃

‎24 ‏וַיָּק֛וּמוּ וַיֵּלְכ֥וּ זִ֖יפָה לִפְנֵ֣י שָׁא֑וּל וְדָוִ֨ד וַאֲנָשָׁ֜יו בְּמִדְבַּ֤ר מָעוֹן֙ בָּעֲרָבָ֔ה אֶ֖ל יְמִ֥ין הַיְשִׁימֽוֹן׃

‎25 ‏וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ שָׁא֣וּל וַאֲנָשָׁיו֮ לְבַקֵּשׁ֒ וַיַּגִּ֣דוּ³ לְדָוִ֔ד וַיֵּ֣רֶד הַסֶּ֔לַע וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב בְּמִדְבַּ֣ר מָע֑וֹן וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע שָׁא֔וּל וַיִּרְדֹּ֥ף אַחֲרֵֽי־דָוִ֖ד מִדְבַּ֥ר מָעֽוֹן׃

‎26 ‏וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ שָׁא֜וּל מִצַּ֤ד הָהָר֙ מִזֶּ֔ה וְדָוִ֧ד וַאֲנָשָׁ֛יו מִצַּ֥ד הָהָ֖ר מִזֶּ֑ה וַיְהִ֨י דָוִ֜ד נֶחְפָּ֤ז לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י שָׁא֔וּל וְשָׁא֣וּל וַאֲנָשָׁ֗יו עֹֽטְרִ֛ים אֶל־דָּוִ֥ד וְאֶל־אֲנָשָׁ֖יו לְתָפְשָֽׂם׃

‎27 ‏וּמַלְאָ֣ךְ בָּ֔א אֶל־שָׁא֖וּל לֵאמֹ֑ר מַהֲרָ֣ה וְלֵ֔כָה כִּֽי־פָשְׁט֥וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

‎28 ‏וַיָּ֣שָׁב שָׁא֗וּל מִרְדֹף֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י דָוִ֔ד וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ לִקְרַ֣את פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים עַל־כֵּ֗ן קָֽרְאוּ֙ לַמָּק֣וֹם הַה֔וּא סֶ֖לַע הַֽמַּחְלְקֽוֹת׃

Vul

1 Et annuntiaverunt David, dicentes: Ecce Philisthiim oppugnant Ceilam et diripiunt areas.

2 Consuluit ergo David Dominum, dicens: Num vadam, et percutiam Philisthæos istos? Et ait Dominus ad David: Vade, et percuties Philisthæos, et Ceilam salvabis.

3 Et dixerunt viri qui erant cum David ad eum: Ecce nos hic in Judæa consistentes timemus: quanto magis si ierimus in Ceilam adversum agmina Philisthinorum?

4 Rursum ergo David consuluit Dominum. Qui respondens, ait ei: Surge, et vade in Ceilam: ego enim tradam Philisthæos in manu tua.

5 Abiit ergo David et viri ejus in Ceilam, et pugnavit adversum Philisthæos: et abegit jumenta eorum, et percussit eos plaga magna: et salvavit David habitatores Ceilæ.

6 Porro eo tempore quo fugiebat Abiathar filius Achimelech ad David in Ceilam, ephod secum habens descenderat.

7 Nuntiatum est autem Sauli quod venisset David in Ceilam: et ait Saul: Tradidit eum Deus in manus meas, conclususque est introgressus urbem, in qua portæ et seræ sunt.

8 Et præcepit Saul omni populo ut ad pugnam descenderet in Ceilam, et obsideret David et viros ejus.

9 Quod cum David rescisset quia præpararet ei Saul clam malum, dixit ad Abiathar sacerdotem: Applica ephod.

10 Et ait David: Domine Deus Israël, audivit famam servus tuus, quod disponat Saul venire in Ceilam, ut evertat urbem propter me:

11 si tradent me viri Ceilæ in manus ejus? et si descendet Saul, sicut audivit servus tuus? Domine Deus Israël, indica servo tuo. Et ait Dominus: Descendet.

12 Dixitque David: Si tradent me viri Ceilæ, et viros qui sunt mecum, in manus Saul? Et dixit Dominus: Tradent.

13 Surrexit ergo David et viri ejus quasi sexcenti, et egressi de Ceila, huc atque illuc vagabantur incerti: nuntiatumque est Sauli quod fugisset David de Ceila, et salvatus esset: quam ob rem dissimulavit exire.

14 Morabatur autem David in deserto in locis firmissimis, mansitque in monte solitudinis Ziph, in monte opaco: quærebat eum tamen Saul cunctis diebus, et non tradidit eum Deus in manus ejus.

15 Et vidit David quod egressus esset Saul ut quæreret animam ejus. Porro David erat in deserto Ziph in silva.

16 Et surrexit Jonathas filius Saul, et abiit ad David in silvam, et confortavit manus ejus in Deo: dixitque ei:

17 Ne timeas: neque enim inveniet te manus Saul patris mei, et tu regnabis super Israël, et ego ero tibi secundus: sed et Saul pater meus scit hoc.

18 Percussit ergo uterque fœdus coram Domino: mansitque David in silva, Jonathas autem reversus est in domum suam.

19 Ascenderunt autem Ziphæi ad Saul in Gabaa, dicentes: Nonne ecce David latitat apud nos in locis tutissimis silvæ, in colle Hachila, quæ est ad dexteram deserti?

20 Nunc ergo, sicut desideravit anima tua ut descenderes, descende: nostrum autem erit ut tradamus eum in manus regis.

21 Dixitque Saul: Benedicti vos a Domino, quia doluistis vicem meam.

22 Abite ergo, oro, et diligentius præparate, et curiosius agite, et considerate locum ubi sit pes ejus, vel quis viderit eum ibi: recogitat enim de me, quod callide insidier ei.

23 Considerate, et videte omnia latibula ejus in quibus absconditur: et revertimini ad me ad rem certam, ut vadam vobiscum. Quod si etiam in terram se abstruserit, perscrutabor eum in cunctis millibus Juda.

24 At illi surgentes abierunt in Ziph ante Saul: David autem et viri ejus erant in deserto Maon, in campestribus ad dexteram Jesimon.

25 Ivit ergo Saul et socii ejus ad quærendum eum. Et nuntiatum est David: statimque descendit ad petram, et versabatur in deserto Maon: quod cum audisset Saul, persecutus est David in deserto Maon.

26 Et ibat Saul ad latus montis ex parte una: David autem et viri ejus erant in latere montis ex parte altera. Porro David desperabat se posse evadere a facie Saul: itaque Saul et viri ejus in modum coronæ cingebant David et viros ejus, ut caperent eos.

27 Et nuntius venit ad Saul, dicens: Festina, et veni, quoniam infuderunt se Philisthiim super terram.

28 Reversus est ergo Saul desistens persequi David, et perrexit in occursum Philisthinorum: propter hoc vocaverunt locum illum, Petram dividentem.
